Sandvik QE340 2010 Operators Manual – Factory Safety, Transport, and Operation Specs

You bought a used QE340 screener, or you’re taking over a fleet machine. The first thing you need is the factory document that tells you how to move it, set it up, and run it without crushing somebody or burning down the site. The Sandvik QE340 2010 Operators Manual is a 334-page factory print – not a knockoff. I’ve seen aftermarket piles that skip the lockout procedure and the conveyor transport dimensions. That gets people killed. This one doesn’t skip a thing.

Safety Section – 11 Pages of Mandatory Procedures

Chapter 1 runs from page 11 through the end of the safety section. Section 1.3 – Safety Hazards Pertaining to the Equipment – breaks down colour-coded signs, mandatory action symbols, prohibited action symbols, and hazard symbols. That’s not decoration. If your crew can’t tell a red circle-slash from a yellow triangle, you’re looking at an incident waiting to happen. Section 1.7 covers Personal Protective Equipment with a list of what’s required – gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, hard hat. Entanglement hazards are spelled out in 1.7.1. Page 26 covers the machine serial number plate location and how to read it. That page alone saves you a parts-ordering headache when you call Sandvik.

Section 1.14 – Specific Hazards – runs through electrical energy, battery handling, gas, dust, steam, smoke, noise, welding near the machine, hydraulic equipment, and hazardous substances. If you’re doing any hot work on this screener, read 1.14.4 before you strike an arc.

Transport & Technical Data – Getting the Machine to the Job

Chapter 2 starts with the pre-start instructions for transport. Section 2.1.2 – Tracking/Moving The Machine – tells you how to use the remote control to walk the QE340 onto a low-boy. You need the transport dimensions from section 2.2: overall length, width, height with conveyors folded. Section 2.4 and 2.5 give you the operation description and key features of the track mounted screener. Common applications listed in section 2.7 – sand, gravel, topsoil, demolition debris – but the real value is in section 2.9: Data. That table includes screen box specs, feeder details, conveyor lengths, dimensions, and engine details. Grab those numbers before you order wear parts or plan a pad.

Working dimensions are in section 2.10. If you’re setting up under overhead power lines or inside a building, measure twice. The manual shows you exactly how much clearance you need.

Commissioning & Shut Down – Lockout/Tagout Is Not Optional

Chapter 4 is where most aftermarket manuals fall apart. Section 4.9 – Lockout and Tag Procedure – is the real deal. It walks through un-tag procedure (4.9.1) and how to use a gang tag (4.9.2). I don’t care if you’re the boss and you’ve been running screeners for thirty years – skip this step and you’re writing a report to OSHA. Section 4.5 covers emergency stop locations and how to operate them. There’s a layout in section 2.8 that shows every e-stop position. Memorize it.

Pre-commissioning instructions (4.1) tell you to check fluid levels, hydraulic hoses, wiring, and guards before you turn the key. Pre-start instructions (4.2) are the same list you should tick off every morning. Section 4.3 – Main Control Devices – covers the remote control, electrical control box, and machine controls. Operating the QE340 – Control Box Panel and Procedures

Chapter 5 is the daily operations playbook. Section 5.2 – The Control Box Panel – includes a labeled diagram of every switch, button, and indicator light. Section 5.3 – Operating The Machine (Screening) – tells you the correct way to load material into the feeder. Overloading the apron feeder causes bearing damage and downtime. If you get a blockage or malfunction, flip to section 1.12.2. It gives you the step-by-step clearing procedure without bypassing safety interlocks. Trying to clear a jam by prying the screen with the engine running is a fast way to lose a hand.

This is not a scan of a scan. The file carries the official Sandvik document number ID: QE340-en-30558, issued 20100111. The Declaration of Conformity shows the machine meets 2006/42/EC and 2004/108/EC directives. That matters if you’re importing, certifying, or defending a safety audit. Aftermarket manuals leave out the lockout procedure and the decal location diagrams (section 1.15). Those decals fade or get knocked off. Without the factory placement guide, you’re guessing. This manual gives you the exact locations so you can order replacements and stick them where Sandvik intended.

The safety section alone (11+ pages) is worth the access. You get colour-coded sign explanations, mandatory/prohibited symbols, hazard symbols, noise-level measurement procedure (section 1.8), vibration levels (1.9), and organizational safety measures (1.10). Does this manual cover the electrical control box wiring diagrams?

Yes. Section 4.3.2 Electrical Control Box includes the panel layout and component identification.

What about torque values for hydraulic fittings and conveyor bolts?

The manual lists torque values in the Technical Data section (chapter 2). For example, the hydraulic hose fitting torque specifications are given in the data tables. You’ll also find bolt torque specs for the screen box and conveyor mounting points. If you’re torquing a critical joint and the manual doesn’t list it, contact Sandvik – but 99% of what you’ll need is in chapter 2.9. I’ve been wrenching for 28 years and I still pull those numbers before I tighten anything on a machine I haven’t memorized. Skipping that step causes leaks, stripped threads, or worse – a conveyor dropping off the frame because someone guessed at 150 ft-lbs when the spec was 90 ft-lbs. Don’t guess.

You need the OEM data. The aftermarket stuff will leave you guessing on conveyor belt tension, screen box angle, and emergency stop placement. Access the Factory Manual and keep it on your tablet or print the key sections. Your crew will work safer, and you’ll spend less time chasing specs.
