Description
Paccar 387 Model Family 2009 Electrical Schematic
I’ve seen too many guys burn half a Saturday chasing a short because they used a third-party wiring diagram that showed the wrong pinout. On a Paccar 387 Model Family 2009 Electrical Schematic, one wrong wire can fry an ABS module or leave a suspension dump dead. This is the factory document – 28 pages, Paccar’s own stamp, no reprints. If you’re working on a 387, you need this on your bench, not some PDF from a forum. You’re about to see why.

Index and Component Location: Don’t Skip Page 1
Sheet 1 is the index – it tells you exactly where every harness and connector lives. Mating connectors are tagged with the harness name and connector ID. Example: MC-5, P15 means Main Cab harness sheet 7, connector P15. Without that index, you’re flipping blind. Page 1 also shows the firewall dash component locations. I’ve seen techs pull a dash apart looking for a ground stud that’s right there on the drawing. Use the index.
Harness Architecture: Block Diagram That Actually Helps
Sheet 3 gives you the high-level harness architecture – a block diagram. It shows how the chassis harness, trailer harness, and cab harness tie together. If you’re tracing a no-start, start here. See where the 17-way connector between chassis and trailer splits? That’s where many intermittent trailer light faults live. The block diagram saves you from pulling apart the whole truck. Pair it with Paccar 387 Electrical Schematic – Factory Wiring Guide if you want the full set.
Diff Lock and Suspension Dump Wiring: Two Systems on One Sheet
Sheets 6 and 9 cover the diff lock and suspension dump wiring. These are separate circuits but share the same harness section. The diff lock solenoid draws high current – chewed connector pins are common. The schematic shows exactly which wire feeds the solenoid and where the ground returns. For the suspension dump, check the VORAD/stability interface on sheet 16 – that system interacts with the dump circuit. If your air bags won’t bleed down, don’t guess; verify pin continuity at the ECU.
Trailer Wiring: Standard and ISO Configurations
Sheet 17 covers TRLR-1, TRLR-2, and TRLR-AUX wiring for standard and ISO trailers. Paccar built these trucks to pull – but a miswired trailer connector will smoke your chassis harness. The schematic shows each pin assignment for both 7-way and 6-pin ISO. Use this to adapt an old trailer without cutting factory wires. For ABS trailer wiring, jump to sheet 19-21 for the ABS cab and chassis diagrams. PACCAR P94 Wiring Diagram – ABS and Telek Axles covers axles specifically.
ABS Wiring: Factory Procedure for Cab and Chassis
Sheets 19-21 are the ABS section: ABS-1 (cab), ABS-2 (cab cont’d), and ABS-CHAS (chassis). The ABS ECU is located under the passenger side – access through the bottom trim. Pin C1 on the 25-way connector is the ignition feed; if it loses voltage, the ABS light stays on. The schematic shows power distribution on sheet 27, labels page. Never splice into an ABS wire without checking the diagram – one wrong tap and you’ll have a system that passes self-test but fails under braking. Read also Automotive Wiring for general safety practices.
Source Authenticity: Why OEM Paccar Schematics Matter
This is not a third-party reprint. Every sheet has the Paccar copyright and proprietary notice. The overlay assembly means interdependencies exist between sheets – you must check validity during revision. Aftermarket diagrams often combine signals incorrectly. For example, the common cab wiring sheet 22 compiles all engine schematics, but the aftertreatment and transmission diagrams are separate BM groups. If you rely on a generic diagram, you’ll miss the aftertreatment integration. PACCAR Aftertreatment System Operator’s Manual gives you the full system view. For general engine knowledge, see this Wikipedia article on diesel engines.
FAQ
- Does this schematic cover the sleeper wiring?
- Yes. Sheets 23-25 cover SLPR-1, SLPR-2, and SLPR-3, including Omnivision/Qualcomm. The sleeper harness includes load light wiring and floor lights. Check sheet 13 for the header (roof) wiring – it’s separate from the sleeper harness.
- Are torque specs included for the firewall ground stud?
- No. This is an electrical schematic, not a service manual. Ground stud torque is not listed. You need the factory service manual for bolt torque values.
Twenty-eight pages of factory-correct wiring. No missing lines, no guessed pinouts, no “this should work” charts. If your Paccar 387 has an electrical issue – from a dead dome light to an ABS fault – this schematic gives you the exact path. Stop burning connectors and start reading the layout. Access the Factory Manual now and keep it in your shop tablet.
