If you need to pull the head, replace valves, or tear down the block, this manual shows the step-by-step disassembly and reassembly sequence. The recoil rope starter is covered in Group 30. Every spec – ring gap, valve clearance, bore limits – is listed in Group 40. Page 10-3 in the specifications group gives engine bore and stroke numbers. Fuel System: Carburetor and Fuel Line Diagnosis

Section 30 covers the fuel system – general information and the carburetor. If your 526 or 1032 won’t start or runs rough, you need the factory carburetor adjustments. The manual lists float level, idle mixture screw settings, and the correct fuel type (regular unleaded, 87 octane minimum). It also tells you which fuel and lubricants to use – see Group 15 in Section 10. Don’t trust the internet forums for carburetor jet sizes; this manual has the original numbers.

Every bolt on these machines has a specified torque. The bolt torque chart on page 10-5 lists values for coarse and fine thread bolts from 1/4 inch to 5/8 inch. The set screw seating torque chart is also there. For the cylinder head, you need the specific sequence and torque – that’s in the engine section. I’ve seen guys guess and snap head bolts or blow gaskets. This manual eliminates the guesswork entirely. Use a torque wrench, period.

Electrical System: Magneto Ignition and Safety Start System

Section 40 covers the magneto ignition system, cranking system, and safety start system. If your snowblower has no spark or won’t crank, the wiring diagrams and component testing procedures are in there. The safety start system – a key feature on these machines – can lock you out if the switch or interlock fails. The manual walks you through diagnosing the neutral start switch and the interlock module. Most aftermarket reprinted manuals blur the wiring diagrams so you can’t read the wire colors. Section 60 lists the special service tools – both the convenience service tools and the ones John Deere designed specifically for the 526 and 1032.
