You bought a marine engine with the Iveco 8281 badge. Maybe it’s in a boat, maybe a generator set. Either way, you need the right numbers when you pull the crankshaft or check the valve clearance. The torque specs are the same ones Iveco used in the factory. Tightening torque for the flywheel bolts affects the Manual Transmission coupling, so you need those numbers.

What Torque Values Are on Page 53?

Page 53 is the tightening torque data section. It lists values for cylinder head bolts, main bearing caps, connecting rod bolts, and more. If you don’t have these numbers, you’re guessing. I’ve seen a head bolt snap at 80 ft-lbs because someone used a generic spec. The manual gives the correct Nm and ft-lbs conversions.

Special Tools: What You Need for This Engine

Page 58 lists the special tools required for service. Some are Iveco part numbers, some are generic. If you’re a home mechanic, you can often improvise, but the manual tells you the exact dimensions. For example, the valve spring compressor tool number is given.
