Hyundai Trajet 1999 Service Manual

EMA repeats the block and moving system but adds a lubrication section and slightly different cylinder head details. Why two? Because Hyundai issued the EMA supplement for later production changes. If you only have one, you miss the updated oil pump clearance specs. Page 73 in EMA gives the charge pressure for the lubrication system – 45-55 psi at idle. Don’t guess. The manual uses imperial units: torque for the cylinder head bolts is 65-72 ft-lb (final pass) plus a 90° angle. That’s not in any generic guide.

Body Electrical (BE) – Factory Wiring Diagnostics

The BE section covers every electrical system: audio, multi-function switch, horns, ETACS, fuses and relays, indicators and gauges, power door mirrors, power windows, rear window defogger, wipers, seat warmer, sunroof, headlamps, turn/hazard lamps, courtesy/trunk lamps, and the immobilizer control system. You need the factory wiring color codes to trace a short without smoking the ETACS module. The manual includes component location diagrams and circuit tests – not a vague schematic. For the immobilizer, it details the transponder key programming procedure. That’s not something you find in a Haynes book.

Brake System (BR) Including ABS and LSPV

Brake section covers general, brake system, parking brake, ABS, and LSPV (load-sensing proportioning valve). The ABS section walks you through bleeding the HCU and the bled sequence. Neglect the LSPV adjustment and your rear brakes lock under load. Factory spec: LSPV rod length 115 mm (4.53 in) at unladen height. I’ve seen aftermarket manuals list it as 118 mm – that’s a blown rear line waiting to happen. The torque for the brake caliper mounting bolts is 35-43 ft-lb. Page 192 in the BR chapter. Trust the factory, not a forum.

Fuel System (FL) and Emission Controls (EC) – DTC Troubleshooting

FL covers MFI control system, fuel delivery, and troubleshooting for DTCs. EC covers crankcase emission, evaporative emission, and exhaust emission control systems. If you have a P0420 on a 1999 Trajet, the manual tells you the exact exhaust gas temperature range and the monitor enable criteria. For the EVAP system, the vent solenoid resistance is 25-30 ohms. The fuel pump pressure test is on page 278 – 51-57 psi with engine off. Don’t rig a gauge without verifying the spec. The manual includes the on-board diagnostic flow chart for each DTC. You don’t throw parts at it.

Clutch and Transaxle (CH & TR) – Torque Specs for the 4-Speed Auto

CH covers the clutch system (general, clutch). TR covers AT and MT systems. The Trajet came with a 4-speed automatic (A4CF1) and a 5-speed manual. The AT section includes the valve body check ball locations, band servo adjustment, and torque converter end play specs. For the manual, the clutch cover bolt torque is 12-15 ft-lb. The transaxle drain plug torque is 30-35 ft-lb. Aftermarket manuals often omit the differential side bearing preload specs. This one doesn’t. It’s all there, in imperial units, with the tightening sequence.

Air Conditioning (HA) – Manual and Full Auto A/C

HA covers general, A/C system, manual A/C, full auto A/C, vacuum system, heater, and blower controls. For a full auto A/C unit that’s blowing hot on one side, the manual includes the actuator calibration procedure using the ETACS test mode. The refrigerant charge is 650-700 g (23-25 oz) of R134a. The compressor oil amount for a new compressor is 120 cc (4.1 fl oz). That’s critical for not seizing the compressor. The expansion valve torque is 18-22 ft-lb.

Audience Fit – Who Needs This Manual?
