Description

I’ve lost count of how many times a rookie came to me with a roller that wasn’t compacting right and had used the wrong oil because the aftermarket manual said “use hydraulic fluid” without specifying the grade. That’s why I keep a copy of the Dynapac CP224 2010 User Manual on the bench. 121 pages of factory-verified data from Dynapac – not some third-party reprint that skips the critical warnings.

Dynapac CP224 2010 User Manual cover - 121 pages OEM factory documentation

Working Capacity – Page 19 Tells You What the Machine Can Do

Page 19 lists the working capacity: static linear load, rolling width, turning radius. If you’re setting up a compaction pass on a base course, those numbers decide how many passes you need. Skip them and you’ll either under-compact or waste fuel. The table also includes centrifugal force per drum – critical when you switch from soil to asphalt.

Tightening Torque – Page 20, Don’t Guess

Page 20 holds the tightening torque table. Wheel nuts, engine mounting bolts, hydraulic fitting connections – every fastener has a ft-lb value. I’ve seen guys use a calibrated elbow and snap off a ½-inch bolt on the vibration motor mount. That costs a day of downtime and a new motor. The manual gives you the numbers. Use them.

Lubricants and Fluids – Page 11 Specs

Page 11 covers standard lubricants and oils – engine oil, hydraulic fluid, gear oil, grease type. It also calls out the ambient temperature ranges: above +40°C (104°F) and freeze risk below freezing. For a roller that sits outside in a San Antonio summer, you need the correct viscosity. The manual lists it. The aftermarket labels just say “ISO 46 hydraulic fluid.” Dynapac specifies the brand and grade. That’s the difference.

Questions About Electrical System? Page 15

Page 15 covers the electrical system – battery voltage (24V), alternator rating, fuses. No full wiring schematic in a user manual (you need the Dynapac CP224 CP274 Electrical System service supplement for that), but the specs are enough to diagnose a no-start or dead battery. The manual also tells you the correct jump-start procedure – page 13 – because hooking up cables wrong on a 24V system fries the ECU.

Safety – The Section That Keeps Your Techs Alive

Pages 5 through 12 are safety. General instructions, operating on slopes (page 7), driving near edges (page 8), ROPS cab requirements (page 12). I watch too many techs ignore the slope angle limits and flip a roller. The manual gives you the maximum slope – 20° for static operation, 15° for vibrating. Those are hard limits. Ignore them and you’re calling a recovery truck – or worse. Also: battery handling and fire fighting instructions. Read them before you start the engine.

3 Slopes and Edges – Operating Rules from Page 7

Page 7 details slope operation: start at the bottom, drive straight up, no sideways travel. Page 8 covers edge proximity: keep at least 2 meters from un-compacted edges. For a CP224 weighing 10 tons, momentum works against you. The manual doesn’t sugarcoat it – it says “risk of roll-over” and means it.

This user manual comes from the 2010 production run, serial number range *224B00001* and up. It’s the official Dynapac instructions manual, printed in Sweden, translation of original text. 121 pages bound in PDF. The table of contents includes every section: introduction, intended use, warning symbols, CE marking, special instructions, technical specifications, dimensions, weights, volumes, tightening torque, and options like edge cutter and xenon lights. Page 17 gives overall dimensions, page 18 weights and volumes – curb weight, max operating weight, fuel tank capacity.

For ordering replacement parts, you’ll need the Dynapac CP224 Spare Parts Catalogue – this user manual only lists part numbers for filters and fluids. If you also run a Dynapac C 220 roller, check the Dynapac C 220 User Manual – Factory Specs for Roller Operation; different machine, but same philosophy. Even though this roller uses a hydrostatic transmission, knowing the fundamentals of a Manual Transmission helps when diagnosing drivetrain noises. For the gearbox on the vibration system, the principles are similar to a Manual Transmission – but don’t start guessing gear ratios; stick to the manual.

FAQ – Common Questions About This User Manual

Is this manual for the CP224 only?
Yes.
Does it include full wiring diagrams?
Page 15 gives electrical system specifications – voltage, battery type, fuse ratings. But it is not a wiring diagram manual. For that you need the Dynapac CP224 CP274 Electrical System service supplement.
What about torque values for wheel nuts?
Page 20 contains a tightening torque table. I don’t have the values memorized, but the manual lists them for all critical fasteners – engine mounts, drum bearings, hydraulic lines. Use that table, not your calibrated elbow.
Can I use this manual for the Dynapac CP274?
No. The CP224 uses a Cummins QSB 3.3 engine, different drum weights, different hydraulic pressures. The CP274 has its own manual. Get the right one.

If you need to keep this roller running right, stop relying on generic online copies that omit pages. Get the OEM document straight from the source. Access the Factory Manual at AutoRepairManuals.
