Chrysler 300M, Concorde, Intrepid Technical Manual – What Lands on the Bench

Chrysler 300M, Concorde, Intrepid Technical Manual cover - 476 page OEM factory document

You’ve got a 2003 Chrysler LH platform car in the bay – 300M, Concorde, or Intrepid. Customer says the ABS light is on, the cooling fan runs all the time, and the transmission shifts hard. Your aftermarket scan tool gives you codes, but you need the factory part numbers and wiring pinouts to track down the real issue. That’s where the Chrysler 300M, Concorde, Intrepid Technical Manual earns its keep. This is the same 476-page document the dealerships used. Not a reprint. Not a digest. The original OEM file, exact as Chrysler released it for the 2003 model year.

Every time I see a tech order the wrong brake hose because they used a generic catalog, I think about this manual. Figure 5-520 in Group 5 shows the rear brake lines and hoses for the Intrepid – including the police package variants. That detail saves you a comeback. The manual doesn’t leave you guessing. It gives you the part number, the routing, and the clip types. If you’ve ever fought a rusty parking brake cable on a Concorde Limited, you’ll appreciate Group 4 – it covers the lever assembly and cables. No third-party fluff. Straight factory data.

VIN Decoding – The First Step You Can’t Skip

Page 1 of the manual shows the VIN plate decoding table. Position 5 tells you the vehicle line: E = Chrysler 300M, C = Chrysler Concorde, H = Chrysler Intrepid (Canada), D = Dodge Intrepid. Position 8 decodes the engine – K for the 3.5L HO, R for the 2.7L, M for the 3.5L 24V. If you’re ordering a starter for a 3.5L HO and don’t check that VIN position, you’ll get the wrong part. I’ve seen it happen. The decoding info also confirms the assembly plant (Brampton, position 11) and the check digit. Before you touch a bolt, decode the VIN. The manual makes it idiot-proof – if you actually read it.

Related to VIN work: Chrysler VIN Plate Decoding Information and Chrysler Concorde Intrepid 300M VIN Decoding Information cover similar territory for earlier years. But for 2003 LH cars, this manual is the one.

Cooling System: Not Just a Radiator Swap

Group 7 of the manual covers the entire cooling system. Radiator and related parts (Fig. 7-110), water pump and related parts (Fig. 7-210), and the coolant recovery system heater plumbing (Fig. 7-310). If you’re doing a water pump on a 3.5L engine, you need the drive pulley diagram in Fig. 7-430. The manual lists the belt routing and the tensioner specs. I’ve had to fix plastic coolant elbows that someone broke because they didn’t check the release sequence in Fig. 7-310. The police package engine cooler lines (Fig. 7-120) are different from the civilian Intrepid. Don’t assume they’re the same.

The transmission oil cooler lines (Fig. 7-610) show the routing past the radiator support. If you’re replacing a radiator on a 300M Special, you need those cooler line part numbers – the manual lists them. No guesswork.

Electrical Diagnostics – No Room for Guessing

Group 8 packs over 30 figures covering starters, alternators, modules, relays, sensors, wiring harnesses, and spark plugs. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is Fig. 8-705. If you have a no-start on a Concorde with a 2.7L engine, the engine sensor diagrams (Fig. 8-605) show the crank sensor location and connector pinout. The wiring section includes headlamp to dash (Fig. 8-1305), instrument panel (Fig. 8-1405), and body accessories (Fig. 8-1505). Every connector, every wire gauge. You can also get the Manual Transmission wiring? Wrong manual – this is for automatics. For transmission diagnostics, the sensor diagram in Fig. 8-615 covers the transmission sensors and solenoids. That’s how you verify the line pressure solenoid circuit before you drop the pan.

If you’re dealing with a dead battery and need the battery tray and cables, Fig. 8-1005 gives you the cable routing and part numbers. The manual also includes the police package lamps (Fig. 8-1115) – helpful if you’re working on an ex-cop Intrepid.

For deeper electrical theory, Manual Transmission is a distraction. Stick to the LH platform specifics here.

Brakes and Suspension – Factory Torque Specs You Can Trust

Group 5 covers the entire brake system from front brakes (Fig. 5-110) to rear disc brakes (Fig. 5-210), power brake booster (Fig. 5-310), master cylinder (Fig. 5-420), and the anti-lock brake hydraulic control unit (Fig. 5-410). The rear brake line diagram (Fig. 5-520) shows the exact routing across the cradle. If you’re replacing a rusted line on a 300M, that figure saves you an hour of fishing. The pedal assembly (Fig. 5-610) includes the pedal bracket and pushrod adjustment specs.

Group 2 covers front suspension and drive shafts. Fig. 2-110 shows the front suspension – strut, knuckle, lower control arm. Fig. 2-210 covers the front axle drive shaft. The manual lists the axle nut torque and the retaining clip size. I’ve seen knock-off axles fail because the tech used a generic snap ring. The manual gives you the Chrysler spec.

For parking brake, Group 4 (Fig. 4-110) shows the lever and cable assembly. If the cable is frozen on a Concorde, the manual walks you through the cable adjustment procedure at the equalizer.

For earlier LH (1993-96) models, refer to Chrysler LH 1993-96 Parts Catalog – but the 2003 manual is the final revision before the platform died.

Source Validity – OEM vs Aftermarket Documentation

This is the real factory file. The file name ends with “Chrysler_300M-Concorde-Intrepid_Technical_Manual_en-19913002104.pdf”. Chrysler released it for dealership service departments. Every figure number matches the parts catalog. The torque values are in ft-lbs and in-lbs as Chrysler specified them – not converted from metric by some third party that rounds up. Aftermarket manuals often skip the Mopar accessory pages (Group 1). This manual includes them: CD changer kit, navigation kit, bike carriers, roof rack, cell phone mount, fog light kit, alarm, keyless entry. If you’re adding a trailer hitch to a 300M, Fig. 1-290 shows the harness and its part numbers. You won’t find that in a Haynes book.

FAQ – Two Questions That Matter

Does this manual cover the 2002 model year?
No. This is for 2003 only. The VIN decoding on page 1 lists “3” in position 10 for model year 2003. For 2002 you want a different file.
What if I need torque specs for the 3.5L cylinder head?
The manual covers the 3.5L engine (EGG, EGC, EGJ, EGK) but does not include cylinder head bolt torque in the Groups listed in the table of contents. The TOC shows Groups 1 through 8 and 08A – no engine mechanical group. That means this manual is strictly a repair parts and wiring/brakes/suspension/cooling reference. For engine internal torque specs, you need the factory service manual (the one with engine mechanical). This technical manual is the parts and diagnostic supplement. Know the difference before you buy.

If you work on these LH cars – whether it’s a 300M Special, a Concorde Limited, or a base Intrepid – you need factory documentation that doesn’t waste your time. This 476-page PDF gives you OEM part numbers, wiring diagrams, and component locations. Access the Factory Manual now and put it on your tablet. Next time a customer brings in a 2003 Intrepid with a cooling fan that won’t shut off, you’ll have Fig. 8-605 and the radiator fan relay schematic ready. That’s the difference between billing one hour and three.
