Description

Atlas Copco CC424, CC4200, 524, 624, 5200 Operators Manual

If you are maintaining a Atlas Copco CC424, CC4200, 524, 624, or 5200 vibratory roller, this is the document you need on the bench – not a third-party reprint, not a condensed summary. The OEM Operators Manual runs 150 pages and covers every system you will touch. I have seen rollers come in with wrong oil because someone used a generic cross-reference. That stops here.

Safety – When Operating on Slopes and Edges

The manual devotes a full section to operating near edges and on slopes. Page 7–8 detail the maximum slope angles and the procedure for driving parallel to a drop-off. I have seen a roller tip because an operator thought he could eyeball it. The factory says 18 degrees side slope, 30 degrees longitudinal – and those numbers come from stability testing, not guesswork. The chapter on slopes also covers what to do when the ground is wet. No shortcuts here.

Standard Lubricants and Fluid Specs

Section 11 lists the exact oils and fluids: engine oil API CJ-4, hydraulic oil ISO VG 46, and the grease for the vibratory bearings. Temperature range matters – above +40°C they recommend a different viscosity. The manual tells you which grease gun tip fits the zerks. I have watched guys use the wrong grease and wreck a bearing in 200 hours. Page 11 gives the freeze-risk procedure when ambient drops below -20°C. Follow it.

Hydraulic System – Charge Pressure and Filter Intervals

The hydraulic system chapter (page 21) gives the charge pressure spec, the case drain flow limits, and the filter change interval. It also includes the bleed procedure for the hydrostatic loop after replacing a pump. That procedure saves you from cavitation. If you skip the bleed, you will replace a $3,000 pump. The manual includes a table of torque values for the hydraulic line fittings – those are not standard JIC torques. Use the factory numbers.

150 Pages of Factory Documentation

That is what you get: 150 pages of the same instruction book the dealer uses. No condensed version, no omitted safety warnings. The table of contents runs from Introduction through Special instructions, Technical specifications, and the ACC (Automatic Climate Control) section for cab-equipped machines. The wiring diagram is in there too. I have seen aftermarket manuals leave out the air conditioning recharge procedure – this one does not. You get the CE declaration, the ROPS certification, everything.

Does This Manual Cover the CC4200 and CC424?

Yes. The manual is labeled for the CC424, 524, 624 HF, and the CC4200, 5200, 6200. The serial number ranges are listed on the first page. If your machine falls within those ranges, the specs apply. The vibratory system differences between the CC424 and the CC4200 are noted in the technical data tables. Do not assume they are identical – the manual gives separate hydraulic flow rates for each model.

Check the Torque Specs for the Wheel Mounting

Page 20 in the General section lists the wheel nut torque: 450 Nm (332 ft-lb). That number is for the standard rim. If you have the optional beadlock rim, the torque changes. The manual tells you. I have seen rims come loose because someone used a generic torque chart from the internet. Stick to the factory spec.

What Safety Procedures Are Covered in the First 10 Pages?

Pages 1–10 cover everything from warning symbols to CE marking, general safety, operating near edges, xenon working light hazards, and air conditioning refrigerant handling. The battery handling section (page 12) includes the jump-start procedure for 24V systems. If you skip that, you can blow the ECU. The manual also covers high-pressure cleaning precautions – do not blast water into the electrical connectors. Common sense? You would be surprised.

Related Manuals

If you are also working on something with a Manual Transmission, that is a different document – but for the Atlas Copco roller, this is the only one you need. Manual Transmission procedures do not apply here.

Q: Can I use this manual for a CC6200?
The title includes the 6200, and the first page lists the serial number range for the CC6200. If your machine serial matches, yes.
Q: Does this manual include torque specs for the vibratory drum mounting bolts?
Yes. The torque values are in the Technical Specifications chapter under hydraulic and mechanical fasteners. The manual gives both Nm and ft-lb. Page 21 covers the drum bearing preload procedure. Do not rely on generic torque charts – use these numbers. I had a customer who used a standard M20 torque from a chart and stripped the threads. The factory spec is 580 Nm (428 ft-lb) for that bolt. That is tighter than most charts show because the bolt is grade 10.9 and the joint is lubricated with anti-seize. The manual also specifies the lubrication required before torquing. Skip that step and your torque reading is off by 20%. The section on the vibratory system includes the bolt tightening sequence – a three-step pattern, not a straight cross-pattern. That keeps the drum flange flat. If you do it wrong, the bearing preload changes and you get vibration issues. So yes, the torque spec is there, but you also need the procedure. The manual gives both.

Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals – it is the same 150-page PDF that Atlas Copco sends to their dealers. No missing pages, no smudged reprints. Get the manual and keep your roller running.
