Page 2 of this catalog is the Technisches Deckblatt — the technical cover sheet. It tells you exactly which vehicle application this steering gear fits: Iveco SPR series 2, 4×2, 6×2, 6×4 right-hand drive. It gives the overall steering ratio variable 26.2/22.2/26.2:1, total steering wheel turns 6.2, torsion bar diameter 7.8 mm. It also specifies the required oil flow of 16-20 liters per minute, the absence of automatic venting, and the hydraulic steering limiting switch range from 32 to 47 degrees. The mounting flange has 5 bolts M20x1.5 on the left side, and the return line connection is M18x1.5 on the cylinder cover front. These are the numbers you need before you order a replacement. If you get the wrong ratio, the vehicle handles wrong. And if you miss the oil flow spec, the pump may cavitate or overpressure the system.

What Torque Values Are on Page 2?

Two critical torques are listed. The safety nut M45x1.5: 570 Nm +/-10%. The mounting bolts M20x1.5: 520 Nm +/-10%. These are not suggestions. Use a torque wrench calibrated within the last year. I’ve seen stripped threads and loose gears from guys guessing. Don’t be that guy. Page 2 also gives the oil flow requirement: 16-20 l/min. Match that to your pump or you’ll get a sluggish gear.

Check the Steering Ratio Before Reassembly

If you are replacing the worm gear or sector shaft, the catalog confirms the steering gear has a right-hand thread worm, left-hand sector shaft, and piston at the front. The variable steering ratio means the internal gearing changes through the turn. You cannot swap parts from a different SERVOCOM variant. Use the data on page 2 to verify.

Hydraulic Limiting: Factory Adjustment Procedure

The SERVOCOM includes hydraulic steering limiting in the piston for automatic adjustment. The switch range is 32 to 47 degrees. This prevents over-rotation. Page 2 documents that there is no anti-suction valve, and the pressure relief valve is set at 170 ± 10 bar. When rebuilding, ensure the ball sets (page 3 lists sets from 6,989 to 6,992 mm diameter) are correct. Wrong balls will cause erratic limiting.

Page 3 starts the parts list with graphics position numbers, material numbers, and quantities. For example, screw 8098.230.102 is used, along with valve insert 7752.242.259 (pressure 170 bar), piston 8098.444.430, and compensating plate 0770.101.334. The ball sets are listed with specific diameters: 7130.640.406 for 6,990 mm, etc.

Do not guess the ball set size.
