Cooling System Maintenance: What the 2004 Manual Covers

I will not touch a reprint or a third-party “compilation”. Those copies rewrite torque values as “tighten securely” – that is useless on a D12D connecting rod bolt. The wiring diagrams are correct because they were drawn by the engineers who designed the electrical system. Check the viscosity and capacity tables on page 142. For the D12D with filter change, the capacity is 38 quarts (10W-30 or 15W-40 depending on ambient temperature). The manual also lists alternative oil grades and the API service classification required – do not use an oil that does not meet CI-4 or higher. If you overfill, the crankcase pressure blows seals. Stick to the spec.

Can I use this manual for a 2005 Volvo VN?
