Sandvik QH331 Operators Manual

Cover of Sandvik QH331 Operators Manual original factory document

I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years, and if there’s one thing that gets under my skin, it’s operators who think they know a machine well enough to skip the manual. You’re not. The Sandvik QH331 Operators Manual is not a suggestion. It’s the factory’s binding instructions for a reason. This isn’t a third-party reprint – it’s the real deal, 256 pages of specs, procedures, and warnings that keep both you and your equipment from getting wrecked. I’ve seen crusher operators skip the safety section because they were in a hurry. That’s how you get a hydraulic line blown in your face. Don’t be that guy.

Sandvik QH331 Operators Manual: 256 Pages of Factory Specs

Every page in this manual comes from Sandvik, not some aftermarket outfit that guesses at torque values. The safety section alone starts on page 11 and covers hazard zones, emergency stops, and maximum inclination angles during tramming. Section 3.0 walks you through transport prep – from preparing the feed conveyor to tracking the machine onto a trailer. This manual exists because Sandvik knows that a 40-ton crusher can kill you if you guess wrong. The 256 pages are split into logical chapters: Safety, Technical and Transport, Product Overview, Commissioning and Shut Down, and Operation. That’s the factory layout, not a generic outline.

Does This Manual Cover the Crusher Hydraulics?

It does. Section 4.1.4 details the hydraulic controls, and the Product Overview chapter (chapter 4) shows you the main control panel, the radio remote, and the umbilical remote. The hazard warning on page 1 tells you to read the manual before you even look at the machine. Page 11 starts the safety section where you’ll find the lockout procedures and isolation steps. If you need the charge pressure for the hydraulic system, the manual references that in the specification tables of main units. Don’t rely on memory – this book has it all in writing.

3 Critical Sections in the Sandvik QH331 Operators Manual

You cannot run this machine safely without these three chapters:
Safety Section (Chapter 1 & 2) – covers the purpose of instructions, signal words, hazard symbols, user obligations, PPE, and procedures for unblocking.
Technical and Transport (Chapter 3) – gives transport dimensions, inclination angles, and preparation steps for moving the QH331.
Commissioning and Shut Down (Chapter 5) – includes the engine start-up sequence, setting the control panel language, belt tension checks, and the auto stop sequence. Miss any of these and you’re operating blind.

Read the Safety Introduction Before You Touch the Machine

The manual starts with a warning on page 1 that says: “To avoid death or injury you MUST read, understand and follow the Operator’s Manual before installing, inspecting, operating, servicing, testing, cleaning, transporting, storing, dismantling or disposing of the product.” That’s not optional. Section 2.1 explains signal words, hazard symbols, and labels on the product. Section 2.6 covers the emergency stop function and isolation. If you’ve ever had an air hammer slip because you skipped the lockout, you know why this section exists. This manual treats safety like it’s the whole reason for the book – because it is.

Transport Dimensions: What the Manual Tells You

Section 3.2.3 lists transport and working dimensions for the QH331. You need these numbers to know if the machine will fit on your trailer, clear bridges, or sit safely on a barge. The manual also includes maximum inclination angles during tramming and parking (section 2.3.5). I’ve seen guys try to load a crusher on a too-steep ramp and nearly roll it. The factory specs are there so you don’t have to guess. Use them.

If you’re working with other Sandvik equipment, you’ll want the factory manuals for those as well. Check out the SANDVIK QH331 2015 Operator’s Manual if you need an older version. For underground loaders, the Sandvik LH203 2010 Operators Manual – Factory Specs & Safety covers that. And for impact crushers, the Sandvik QI240 Operators Manual – 258 Pages Factory Safety & Operations is the one.

Understanding the basics of power transmission helps when diagnosing track drive issues. For a primer on how manual transmissions work, see Manual Transmission and Manual Transmission.

What serial numbers does this manual cover?
The manual is written for serial number 1884BG but applies to all QH331 units if no modification has been made without Sandvik’s written agreement.
Why is the safety section so long?
Because Sandvik doesn’t mess around. Section 2 covers hazard zones, emergency stops, maximum inclination angles, lockout procedures, and fire risk measures – the kind of stuff that keeps guys alive when a 40-ton crusher decides to shift. If you think you can skip to the operation chapter, you’re wrong. This manual treats safety like it’s the whole reason for the book, because it is. The TOC lists 12 subsections under safety and environmental instructions alone, including incident reporting and disposal procedures. That’s the difference between a factory manual and a pamphlet.
Does it include wiring diagrams or electrical schematics?
The manual covers the main control panel, hydraulic controls, and remote control units, but detailed electrical schematics are not listed in the TOC. You’ll need the separate Service Manual for that.
Can I use this manual for a different Sandvik crusher model?
No. Each model has its own operators manual. The QH331 manual is specific to that machine. Using the wrong manual will give you wrong specs and unsafe procedures.

You’ve got a QH331 to run. You need the real instructions from the people who built it. Don’t trust a photocopy or a PDF from some forum. Go to AutoRepairManuals and access the factory manual now – the genuine Sandvik document that keeps your operation safe and your machine running right.
