The pin colors don’t match, the connector callouts are wrong, and suddenly you’ve got a cab full of smoke and a pissed-off owner. That’s not a repair — that’s arson practice. Harness Architecture Block Diagram

Page 2 lays out the whole bird’s nest in a single block diagram: main cab harness, powertrain engine harness, transmission harness, trailer harness, chassis, firewall, hood, sleeper, VORAD cab, VORAD chassis, ABS, door harnesses, DPF charge/start, and sleeper audio. You can see how the firewalls connectors tie everything together. If you’re planning to splice into the J1587 data bus for a remote display, you need to see that diagram first — the bus connector location is on page 3 near the ABS ECU. Don’t guess where the relay assembly sits. It’s drawn right there.

What Does the 67-Page Schematic Cover?

Every harness and subsystem in the 389 model family. The index on page 1 lists 66 sheets. You get: main cab (11 pages covering everything from dash lights to the turnstalk module), roof harness, cab audio (dash, roof, EHD), both left and right door harnesses, four sleeper variants (70″, 63″ high roof, 63″ low roof, 48″ high roof, 48″ low roof, 36″) each with their own load center pages — with and without low voltage disconnect (LVD). Then the engine sections: C15, C13, C9, ISX, ISM, ISL. Separate charge/start pages for each engine family. Two fuse harness pages — CAT and Cummins. 3 Engine Harness Groups You’ll Use Most

If you work on these trucks regularly, you’ll spend time on the CAT and Cummins engine sections. The C15, C13, and C9 share one charge/start page (page 50). The ISX charge/start is separate on page 52. That matters because the starter relay circuits are different. Use the wrong page and you’ll be checking the wrong pin on the firewall connector. Page 51 covers engine brake wiring for all engines — important if you’re retrofitting a Jake brake or diagnosing an intermittent fault. Each engine harness page shows the exact connector pinouts, wire colors, and circuit numbers. Do not rely on memory. I’ve seen a 389 leave the shop with the C15 injector harness pinned backwards because a tech “knew the colors.” They didn’t. Check the schematic.

Sleeper Wiring: Load Centers and LVD Variations

The 70″ sleeper has two load center sheets: one without LVD (page 23) and one with LVD (page 24). If you install an aftermarket inverter and tap into the wrong load center circuit, you can drop voltage below the LVD threshold and kill the sleeper electronics at 3 a.m. The manual shows the LVD module wiring — that’s gold. Also note the 36″ sleeper audio is separate from the 48/63/70″ audio (pages 34–35). If someone swapped a 48″ box onto a truck originally built with a 36″, you need those two different sheets to make the radio work.

Why This Isn’t an Aftermarket Copy

It’s a direct PDF of the Peterbilt P94-6101 schematic. That means the grid coordinates (A–L, 1–16) are intact, the drawing size is A0, and the revision number (01) is stamped on every page. Aftermarket schematics often re-number the diagrams, remove the grid overlay, or composite multiple harnesses onto one page until it’s unreadable. Not here. You see exactly what the dealer sees. Does this manual include pinout tables?
No. It’s a schematic, not a service manual. Pin numbers and wire colors are shown directly on the wiring diagrams. If you need connector face views and cavity numbers, you want the Peterbilt Body Builder Manual or a service manual with connector repair sections.
Can I use this for a 2018 Peterbilt 389?
Yes — the schematic covers all 389 model family years for that generation. The P94-6101 revision covers the architecture up to the DPF and VORAD integration.
