If you’re working on a Perkins 2806C-E16 2002 Workshop Manual is the only thing that should be on your bench. This isn’t some reprint from a third-party scanner; it’s the factory publication TSD3450E, Issue 2, dated October 2002, 158 pages of what Perkins wrote for their industrial 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. Every spec in here came off the line at Shrewsbury. You want the correct crankshaft bearing clearance? It’s in there. Need the cylinder head bolt sequence for the 2806? Page 27 has it drawn out with torque values that match the fasteners on your engine. I don’t trust aftermarket manuals that pull numbers from a generic database. This one is OEM, and that’s the difference between a seal that holds and a coolant leak three months down the road.

Cylinder Head Assembly: Torque Sequences and Valve Specs

Chapter 3 of this workshop manual covers the cylinder head assembly from page 27 onward. It doesn’t skip the valve guide installation or seat insert tolerances. You get the rocker arm adjustment procedure, the valve spring free length, and the exact torque for the cylinder head bolts in the right order. Perkins laid out the tightening sequence step by step. If you’ve ever had a head gasket fail because you went around the bolt circle in the wrong pattern, you know why this matters. The manual also lists the valve seat insert interference fit – that’s the kind of spec you won’t find in a Chilton book. Get the data from the source that built the engine.

Crankshaft and Main Bearing Data from the 2806 Engine

Chapter 5 dives into the crankshaft assembly. You get main bearing journal diameters, crankpin dimensions, thrust washer thickness, and the damper removal procedure. The crankshaft end float is specified, and page 15 of the specifications chapter gives you the basic engine data for both the 2306 and 2806 engines. For the 2806C-E16, the numbers are specific – do not use the 2306 values on this block. I’ve seen a workshop swap in a 2306 crankshaft once because they thought they were the same. That cost them a block. Stick to the factory data.

What Torque Figures Are Listed in the Specifications Chapter?

Page 20 of the manual has the recommended torque figures table. It covers metric fasteners (nuts, bolts, taperlock studs), imperial fasteners, and O-ring face seal fittings for fuel and hydraulic lines. You get standard torque for each thread size – from M6 up to M30, and 1/4 in. to 1 in. in imperial. If you’re torquing a fuel injection line nut on the 2806, you look at the flared fitting torque on that same page. This is the section I point every new tech to before they touch a wrench. Skip it and you’ll either strip a thread or leave a connection loose enough to weep oil.

Cooling System: Factory Procedure for Coolant Pump Replacement

Chapter 12, the cooling system section, starts on page 111. It covers the coolant pump removal and installation, thermostat testing, and the correct coolant capacity for the 2806C-E16. Perkins uses a specific coolant pump that has a different impeller clearance than generic replacements. The manual tells you how to check that clearance.
