Description

Manitou MB 20C, MC 20C, MB 20CL, MC 25C, MB 25C Parts Catalog

You’ve got a Manitou MB 20C, MC 20C, MB 20CL, MC 25C, MB 25C Parts Catalog in your hand. If you’re like me, you’ve wasted time with aftermarket part listings that show a blurry sketch and a part number that never matches the real casting. That stops here. This is the factory catalog — straight from BRAUD & FAUCHEAUX SA, printed in 1979. It covers the transmission, engine, fuel system, brakes, hydraulics, and every nut and bolt in between. If you need to identify a part on a Manitou 20C or 25C series, this is the only reference you trust.

Fuel Shut-Off Controls and Fuel Tank (Pages 70–72)

Starts right at the fuel system. Page 70 covers the diesel shut-off controls — cables, levers, brackets. Page 72 shows the fuel tank itself, including mounting hardware. If your Manitou is leaking or the shut-off linkage is sloppy, you need the exact part numbers from these pages. Don’t guess which rod fits; the factory drawing gives you the length and the bend. Also includes the water trap on page 73. That little separator is often overlooked until water plugs the injection pump. Replace it with the right filter element.

Transmission Case and Gear Shifter Mechanism (Pages 82–87)

This section is the heart of the catalog. Page 82 shows the transmission case — the cast iron housing that holds all the gears. If you’ve split a case or cracked a mounting ear, you need to order the correct casting number because there are different versions for the MB 20C and MC 25C. Pages 84–86 detail the gear shifter mechanism — the rods, forks, and detents that make the synchros work. The full forward/reverse shift mechanism is on page 87. That’s the shuttle control that lets you change direction without clutching. If it binds, you need those little bushings and springs. Each part is listed with its factory reference. No cross-referencing required.

Clutch Housing and Connections (Pages 74–79)

Clutch problems are the main reason I see these machines come in. The clutch housing and its connections are exploded on pages 74–76. Then the clutch housing alone (with bearing retainer details) is on pages 78–79. You’ll find the 11-inch clutch assembly on pages 88–89 — the disc, pressure plate, release bearing. If the pedal return lever on page 80 feels sloppy, there’s a bushing that wears. The catalog gives you the part number for that bushing. Pull the old one, match it to the diagram, order the right one. No need to buy the whole lever assembly.

Differential Lock and Rear Axle (Pages 102–111)

The differential on pages 102–104 shows the carrier, ring gear, pinion, and bearings. If you’ve got a whine from the rear end, you’re probably looking at a carrier bearing. Page 106–107 covers the differential lock — the sliding collar and fork that lock the axles together. That’s a common failure point on worksite machines. Then the rear axle: broad version on pages 108–109, narrow on 110–111. The difference matters for track width and wheel bolt pattern. The catalog lists both.

Engine: Crankcase to Injection System (Pages 2–28)

Engine coverage starts at the bottom end. Crankcase, front cover, oil pan on pages 2–5. Cylinder head and exhaust manifold on pages 8–10. Camshaft and valve mechanism on pages 12–13. Crankshaft, flywheel, rods, pistons on pages 14–17. Then the fuel injection system on pages 20–22, the DPA injection pump on pages 24–28. If you’re rebuilding a Perkins-derived diesel or just replacing an injector, the exploded view on page 46 shows the nozzle and holder. For background on how diesel injection works, see this Wikipedia article on diesel engines.

Count the Pages: 134 Pages of Factory Part Numbers

This catalog is 134 pages thick. Every page is an exploded drawing with a parts list. The index is multilingual — French, German, Spanish, English. You can look up by part name or by page number. It covers models MB 20C, MC 20C, MB 20CL, MC 25C, MB 25C — plus a few others like MC 30C, MB 30C, MCE 20C, and 4RM variants. The transmission section alone runs from clutch housing through to the final drive. Hydraulic pump pages 120–125 show the gear pump and drive coupling. Brake section starts at disc brakes on page 115, hand brake linkage on 116, and hand brake assembly on 118–119. Even the toolbox and decals are listed on pages 127–129.

OEM Parts Catalog vs Aftermarket: Know the Difference

I have a rule: when the part number matters, use the factory book. Aftermarket catalogs renumber parts, combine assemblies, or omit supersessions. This catalog prints the original BRAUD & FAUCHEAUX part numbers. If you need a part for a 1979 Manitou transmission, you can walk into a dealer with that number and they’ll know what you’re talking about. The drawings show the actual orientation of the part — which end faces the front, which bolt hole lines up with the dowel. You don’t get that from a screen shot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual include torque specs?
No. This is a parts catalog, not a service manual. It lists part numbers and exploded diagrams, not fastener torques.
Which models are covered exactly?
This catalog explicitly covers Manitou MB 20C, MC 20C, MB 20CL, MC 25C, and MB 25C transmission variants. It also includes partial info for MC 30C, MB 30C, MCE 20C, 4RM 20C, MCE 25C, 4RM 25C, and MCE 30C models. The focus is the transmission, but it covers engine fuel, clutch, brakes, hydraulics, and rear axle. You get 134 pages of factory drawings with original part numbers printed in 1979 by BRAUD & FAUCHEAUX. Use the index to find your exact model and section.

You need the right part number the first time. Access the Factory Manual and keep it on your tablet next to the lift. That way when you’re under a 25C with a busted shift fork, you can zoom in on page 86 and call your parts guy with the number. No guessing, no returns, no lost time.
