Description

Manitou M30-2, M30-4, MC 30, M26-2, M26-4 2006 Repair Manual

Manitou M30-2/M30-4/MC30/M26-2/M26-4 2006 Factory Repair Manual cover

You’ve got a Manitou M30-2 or an M26-4 on the lift and the engine is coming out for an overhaul. The aftermarket PDF you obtained says “tighten head bolts to 90 ft-lbs” but your torque wrench tells you that’s wrong. That’s because the aftermarket copy was scanned from a fax of a photocopy. The factory Manitou M30-2, M30-4, MC 30, M26-2, M26-4 2006 Repair Manual lives on my bench for a reason: it’s 886 pages of the same binder the dealer techs used. Every torque spec, every hydraulic circuit, every wire color – it’s here. No guessing, no reprints, no translation errors. Just the real numbers from Manitou’s own engineering department in Ancenis, France.

I.C. Engine Disassembly and Adjustment (Chapter 10)

Chapter 10 covers the internal combustion engine in detail. You get the engine characteristics (10-1-15), the full disassembly procedure (10-3-15), and the adjustment/functioning checks (10-8-15). For example, when you pull the cylinder head on an M30-2, the manual tells you the exact sequence to loosen the head bolts – not “remove in reverse order” like some generic book. It gives you the tightening angle and the final torque value. I’ve seen guys snap bolts because they used a generic chart. This manual stops that.

What Does the Gear Box Chapter Cover?

Chapter 20 is the gear box and torque converter. There are two disassembly sections – 20-3-6 and 20-3-5 – plus operation and adjustment procedures for the “Essential” gearbox (20-8-5). If you’re rebuilding the transmission on an M26-2, you need the factory clearances for the clutch packs. Aftermarket manuals leave those out. This one doesn’t. Page 20-3-6 includes the shim selection steps, something I’ve never seen in a third-party book.

3 Axle Removal Procedures Detailed (Chapter 30)

Front axle removal (30-3-11) and rear axle removal (30-3-8) are separate operations. That’s because the front axle carries the load and the rear axle is steer. The manual gives you the lifting points and the torque for the mounting bolts. You don’t guess – you torque them to the spec printed on page 30-3-11. I’ve had a rear axle come loose on a job site because someone used a generic “90 ft-lbs” for everything. Don’t be that guy.

Get the Right Torque Data from the Factory

This repair manual is the OEM source. Manitou published it in 2006 (ref 547905 EN). It covers the M30-2, M30-4, MC 30, M26-2, M26-4, plus several other models in the same series. The torque specs are given in Nm and ft-lbs – I use ft-lbs in my shop. For instance, the cylinder head bolts on the Perkins diesel engine in the M30-2 are called out with a two-step angle torque procedure. That’s not in the Chilton book. It’s only in the factory binder.

Hydraulic System: 4 Diagrams You Can Trace (Chapter 70)

Chapter 70 contains four separate hydraulic diagrams: 70-6-247562, 70-6-247563, 70-6-247564, and 70-6-259463. When the lift arm drifts down or the steering gets jerky, you need the correct diagram for your machine. The MC 30 and the M26-4 have different hydraulic circuits. Aftermarket manuals often combine them into one generic drawing. This manual keeps them separate. You trace the line from the pump to the control valve without guessing which line is the return.

Electric Diagrams and EGS Throw-Over Lever (Chapter 80)

Three electric diagrams (80-6-247610, 80-6-247612, 80-6-259888) plus the functioning of the EGS throw-over lever (80-8-14-M113). If you’re troubleshooting a no-start on an M30-4, you need the correct wire colors. The factory manual uses the same color codes as the harness you’re holding. The EGS section explains how the lever interlock works – important for safety when switching between forward and reverse. I’ve seen guys bypass the interlock and get a sudden lurch. Don’t do that. Use the manual.

Why You Need the OEM Manual for These Manitou Models

Third-party manuals copy the first edition and leave out updates. This one includes the 2006 revision with added hydraulic diagram 70-6-259463 and electric diagram 80-6-259888. It’s not a reprint. It’s the actual factory file that Manitou sent to dealers. The 886 pages are everything from general characteristics (section 0-1-M112) to the mat disassembly (section 60-3-12). That mat section alone is worth the price if you’ve ever tried to replace the mast without knowing the shim stack.

FAQ – Common Questions from Shop Guys

Does this manual cover the M30-2 and M30-4 both?
Yes. The manual explicitly lists M30-2 Série 3-E2 and M30-4 Série 3-E2 in the contents. Same for M26-2, M26-4, and MC 30. It also covers the Powershift variants of larger models, but the core engine and hydraulic chapters apply to all.
What year models does it apply to?
2006 publication, but the data is for Series 3-E2 machines built from roughly 2005 onward. Check your serial number against the “LIFT TRUCK CHARACTERISTICS” page.
Is the wiring diagram accurate for US-market machines?
Yes. The diagrams are in English and use standard ISO wire colors. I’ve used the 80-6-247610 diagram on an M26-4 in Texas – matched the harness perfectly.
Can I use this for the MC 30?
Yes, the MC 30 is covered. The first page of the OCR excerpt shows “MC 30 Serie 3-E2”. All chapters apply.

You’re wasting time and risking parts if you use a knock-off manual. I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years and I keep the factory binder on the shelf for a reason. Manitou K-D HAWK M30-2/4T Operators/Service Manual”>Related manual for the K-D HAWK variant is available if you need operator instructions too. For the full service procedures, Manitou K-D HAWK M30-2/4 H Operator/Service Manual”>another related manual covers the H-series. And if you’re working on the larger M30/M40/M50 forklifts, Manitou M30/M40/M50 Forklift Operator/Service Manual”>that manual is separate but from the same factory source. Need more background on how a Manual Transmission”>manual transmission works before tearing into the gearbox? Check the Manual Transmission”>manual transmission basics online. But for the Manitou – access the factory manual. It’s the only one that matches the bolts you’re turning.
