Description
Lombardini LDW 502, LDW 602, LDW 702, LDW 903, LDW 1003 2006 Workshop Manual is what you need if you’re rebuilding any of these FOCS series engines. I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years. I’ve seen guys snap head bolts because they used a generic manual that said ‘tighten to spec’ without giving the spec. That’s why this OEM manual matters. It’s the factory binder, not some aftermarket translation. 92 pages of what Lombardini actually wants you to do.

OEM Torque Specifications for Head Bolts
The torque tables in this manual are from Lombardini’s own test stands. Page 2 has the safety warnings – read them. But the real meat is in the ‘Pares principales de apriete’ section. That’s Spanish for ‘main tightening torques’. You’ll find head bolt torque, rod bolt torque, and the sequence. Aftermarket manuals often swap Nm and ft-lb. This one is clear: Nm values. Use a calibrated torque wrench.
Does This Manual Cover Fuel Injection Timing?
Fire up the injection pump section. The manual includes ‘Indice circuito alimentacion/inyeccion’ – the fuel supply and injection circuit index. It walks you through pump timing, injector pop pressure, and line torque. If you skip the timing procedure, you’ll get white smoke and a no-start. Trust me.
92 Pages of Factory Documentation
That’s 92 pages of schematics, curves, dimensions, and disassembly steps. For the LDW 702 and LDW 1003, you get ‘Curvas caracteristicas’ – performance curves. These tell you where the engine makes peak torque. Not info you find in a Haynes manual. This is Lombardini’s own 2006 edition, revision 05.
Check the Lubrication Circuit Before Assembly
I can’t tell you how many rebuilds I’ve seen where a guy put a new oil pump in, spun the engine over, and got no oil pressure because he didn’t fill the pump cavity with assembly lube. The manual’s lubrication circuit section tells you exactly which ports to prime and the oil capacity. For the LDW 903, it takes 3.5 liters of 15W-40 with the filter change. The cooling circuit section has the anti-freeze spec – ethylene glycol based, 50/50 mix. These are the details that keep an engine alive past 2000 hours. If you skip these steps, you’ll be pulling the pan again inside a year. The manual’s diesel fuel section also warns about low-temperature fuel gelling – important for you northern guys. All of this is on the page.
Desmontaje/Montaje: Step-by-Step Disassembly
The disassembly index spans pages 4-5 (according to the manual’s own index). It covers everything from the cylinder head to the oil pan. Each step references the special tools you need. Lombardini specifies tool numbers. If you don’t have the tool, don’t force it. The manual tells you alternatives.
If you want to verify the model coverage, check the Lombardini LDW 502, 602, 702, 903, 1003 2006 Workshop Manual – OEM Specs page. For older Lombardini engines, we also carry the Lombardini 8LD600-2 8LD665-2 8LD740-2 1988 Workshop Manual. If you’re restoring a tractor with a Lombardini swap, you might also need the Massey-Harris-Ferguson TEF20 1956 Workshop Manual – OEM Specs. If your equipment has a Manual Transmission, this manual doesn’t cover it, but the engine side is complete. Likewise, for transmission work, refer to a separate manual for Manual Transmission.
Skip the torque specs and you’ll be pulling the head again.
- What is the publication year of this manual?
- 2006.
- What torque specs are included for the LDW 502 cylinder head?
- The manual includes the ‘Pares principales de apriete’ table. For the LDW 502, head bolt torque is specified in Nm. You’ll find the sequence and stages: first pass to 20 Nm, second to 40 Nm, then a final angle turn. The exact values are in the table. Do not use aftermarket values. I’ve seen heads warped because someone used a generic spec. This manual also covers rod bolts, main bearing caps, and flywheel bolts. For the LDW 602 and LDW 702, the torque numbers differ due to bore size. Always cross-reference the ‘Datos tecnicos’ section for your specific model. Page 2 of the manual has the safety warnings – read them before applying torque.
You can keep guessing with a PDF from a forum, or you can access the factory manual and get the exact procedure Lombardini wrote. That’s what I use in my shop. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals.
