Description

Linde HPV-02 2006 Operators Manual – Factory Specs for Hydrostatic Transmission

I’ve seen more hydrostatic transmissions grenaded from skipped filling procedures than from worn parts. This 28-page factory manual from 2006 is what Linde shipped with the Linde HPV-02 axial piston units. If you’re a tech or a shop owner working on closed-loop hydrostats, you need this on the bench—not a generic aftermarket copy missing the critical specs.

Linde HPV-02 2006 Operators Manual – factory OEM document for hydrostatic axial piston units

Page 5 holds the general safety information. Read it. The manual walks through mounting positions for variable displacement pumps and motors, piping requirements, and maximum pressures. Section 10 details initial start-up—both with and without a filling device. That’s where most of the damage happens. The manual spends four pages on that alone.

General Safety Information: Page 5 Essentials

Section 2 of this Operators Manual covers the hazards you need to know before touching the system. Stuff like residual pressure, hot oil, and rotating shafts. I don’t care if you’ve done a hundred of these—read it. The manual explicitly states this document is for experts already experienced with hydrostatic systems. If you aren’t that guy, get someone who is.

Initial Start Up for HPV-02 Pumps – Section 10

Page 14 begins the start-up procedures. Two methods: one with a filling device (page 15), one without (page 18). The difference matters. Use the wrong method on an HPV-02 and you’ll cavitate the pump before it ever sees load. The manual lists the required tool—a filling device—and the steps for both scenarios. No guesswork.

Hydraulic Fluids and Filtration: Section 8 Data

Section 8 tells you what hydraulic fluid to use and what filtration level is needed. This isn’t a suggestion. Use the wrong viscosity or skip the filter and your charge pressure drops. The OEM specs are right there. If you need a primer on manual transmission systems, check the Manual Transmission overview, but for this unit, stick to the factory oil specs.

Does the Manual Cover Circuit Diagrams?

Yes. Section 12 has example circuit diagrams on page 22. These aren’t generic—they’re specific to Linde Series 02 units in closed-loop applications. You get the actual diagrams used by the engineers. For anything related to cylinder head torque or mechanical linkage, the Cylinder Head Mechanics article is a different topic. This manual covers the hydraulic loop.

Piping and Case Pressure Limits – Section 7

Page 10 covers high and low pressure lines, vent ports, leakage lines, and case pressure. The manual distinguishes between HPV pump with external vs internal suction auxiliary pump. That matters when you’re plumbing a new installation. Maximum pressures are given for Series 02 units. Don’t exceed them.

Maintenance Points: Filter and Fluid Exchange

Section 11 on page 21 covers the metrology, check, and maintenance points. Filter exchange and hydraulic fluid exchange are listed. The manual says to keep the serial number from the name plate handy when contacting Linde sales or service. That’s page 4 info.

This 28-page document is not a repair manual. It’s the operating instructions for Linde axial piston units in closed loop application. It covers the HPV-02 variable displacement pumps, HMV-02 variable motors, HMR-02 regulating motors, and HMF-02 fixed motors.

Aftermarket documentation? Don’t bother. The Linde H100-600, H120-1200, H120-600, H140-1200, H160-600 Operators Manual covers different models. If you’re working on smaller lift trucks, the Linde H 50 T – 03 to H 80 T – 03 2005 Operators Manual – OEM Factory Specs and Linde H 50-H80 2005 Operators Manual – OEM Factory Specs are related but not the same as this HPV-02 document.

Period.

Does this manual cover installation torque values for the HPV-02 pump mounting bolts?
No. This is an operators manual, not a service manual. Torque values are not listed. For installation torque, you need the corresponding service or repair manual.
What models are included beyond the HPV-02 pump?
This operating instruction covers variable displacement pumps HPV-02, variable displacement motors HMV-02, regulating motors HMR-02, and fixed displacement motors HMF-02. All are Linde Series 02 units for closed-loop circuits. The manual includes specific sections for mounting positions of pumps (page 9) and motors (page 9), piping requirements, and initial start-up procedures. If you have a different series or an open-loop application, this manual does not apply. The manual is explicit: it refers exclusively to Linde Series 02 hydrostatic units used in closed loop circuits. Page 4 states that clearly. For anything else, contact the system manufacturer.
