Description

Komatsu BR550JG-1 2005 Installation Manual

Komatsu BR550JG-1 2005 Factory Installation Manual cover showing mobile crusher

You get a mobile crusher delivered in pieces, a crew waiting, and a pile of loose bolts. Without the Komatsu BR550JG-1 2005 Installation Manual, you are working blind. I have seen plenty of field-assembly jobs go sideways because somebody guessed on a torque spec or skipped a step. This is the original factory document – 99 pages of exactly what Komatsu wanted done, in the order they wanted it done. No aftermarket rewrite, no condensed version. You open it and you get the same page the dealer’s master mechanic uses.

Factory Torque Values and Tool List

Page 11 lists the tightening torque for every critical fastener on the BR550JG-1. That includes crusher mounting bolts, hydraulic fittings, and structural hardware. Next to it, page 10 shows the necessary tools – from specific wrenches to torque multipliers. You want jobber-grade sockets? Fine. But you need the right size and the right torque value, and this manual gives you both. I have chased down bolts that came loose on a crusher jaw because some tech used a generic chart. That does not happen when you use the factory number.

Assembly Procedure: Crusher, Hoses, and Guards

The manual breaks section A into 14 specific sub-steps. Assembly of the crusher ass’y comes first, then installation of the crusher motor hoses, conveyor lock cylinder hoses, guard ass’y, dust cover plate, bracket, hopper, pre-cleaner, muffler, revolving warning lamp, hood, handrail, and step. Each step has a separate heading and a drawing reference. You do not wonder what comes next. The manual even tells you when to check oil and coolant levels (part 1/2) and how to bleed air from the hydraulic circuits. If you skip the bleed procedure, you will have a spongy system that costs you a day of troubleshooting.

Why OEM Documentation Beats Aftermarket Reprints

I have seen aftermarket manuals that claimed to cover the BR550JG-1. They left out half the torque specs, merged steps, and used generic illustrations. This is an original Komatsu publication – serial numbers 1001 and up. The copyright is 2005, printed in the U.S.A. by Komatsu America Corp. When a procedure says “Install the lock cylinder hoses,” it is followed by the correct port orientation and fitting torque. Aftermarket houses cannot give you that. They do not have the original layout drawings or the kit layout drawing on page 4. You want to avoid warranty claims and rework? Use the manual that came from the factory floor.

Open-Close Hopper: Separate Section B

This manual dedicates a full section to the open-close hopper related parts. It starts with packing posture for transport, then lists separately shipped parts, and walks through cylinder installation (bottom side), locks, supports, hopper, cylinders (rod side), switch box connection, rubber cover, and conveyor protection plate. Each step includes the postures required. If you rush the hopper assembly, the lock mechanism will bind. I have seen that happen – a $2,000 hopper rebuild because someone rushed the rod-side cylinder installation. The manual’s inspection report at the end is your checklist before first fire-up.

Field Assembly Inspection Report

The last pages of the manual contain the field assembly inspection report. This is a formal sign-off sheet. You mark each system checked – hydraulic pressure, torque verifications, coolant levels, and safety devices. Skip this, and your liability goes up. One of my techs once failed to check the pre-cleaner mounting because he thought it was minor. The crusher ingested dirt on the second shift and cost us a liner replacement. That report exists to prevent exactly that.

What serial numbers does this cover?
BR550JG-1 models from serial 1001 and up.
Does the manual include hydraulic hose routing?
Yes. Section A covers crusher motor hoses and conveyor lock cylinder hoses with routing and torque values.
How many pages of torque data are there?
Page 11 has the tightening torque table. Page 15 covers coating materials that affect friction – both critical for correct clamping force.
Can I use this manual for a different Komatsu model?
No. This is specific to the BR550JG-1. Using it for another model will give you wrong weights, dimensions, and torque specs. Order the correct manual for your machine.

You have a choice. Chase down parts diagrams and forum posts, or get the factory document that Komatsu issued for the BR550JG-1. The manual is a PDF, searchable, printable. Access the Factory Manual and keep it on your tablet or bench. One torque value wrong can cost you a crusher frame. This manual gives you the right number the first time.
