JLG 534C-9, 534C-10 2002 Service Manual – Factory Specs
Original price was: $44.70.$30.00Current price is: $30.00.
Factory service manual for JLG 534C-9/534C-10 (2002). 258 pages covering engine, brakes, axles, and hydrostatic drive diagnostics.
Description
I’ve been an ASE Master Technician for 28 years, and I’ve seen more aftermarket manuals than I have hot meals. Most of them get the torque specs wrong by 10 ft-lbs or skip the bleed procedure entirely. That gets you a comebacker or a lawsuit. This JLG 534C-9, 534C-10 2002 Service Manual is the original OEM factory document – 258 pages of what the engineers actually wrote. It covers serial numbers 0344394 through 0444002 for the 534C-9 and 0266057 through 0266106 for the 534C-10. If you’re working on one of these Gradall material handlers, you need this on your bench, not a photocopy from a guy on eBay.

Engine Operation Checks That Keep You from Wasting a Day
Before you even crank the engine, the manual lays out checks and services you have to do. Page 26? [DATA NEEDED] Actually, the Operation & Lubrication section lists everything from fluid levels to decal inspection. The engine operation subsection tells you the warm-up sequence and what RPM to hold before loading the hydraulics. Skip the warm-up? You’ll shear a pump coupler. The manual also covers the park brake interlock – if that’s not working, the engine won’t start. Don’t guess; follow the checklist.
Brake System: What the Factory Says About Bleeding
The brake system gets its own section because these handlers use a Mico hydraulic power brake valve. The manual includes the service manual for that valve – system schematic, performance data, bleeding procedure. Do it wrong and you’ll have air in the system, which means a soft pedal and a machine that won’t stop. The bleed sequence is specific: start at the wheel furthest from the valve and work your way in. This is not the same as a pickup truck.
10-Step Hydraulic Performance Check
There’s a dedicated Hydrostatic Drive Performance Check Manual inside. It walks you through ten steps: oil reservoir level, filter condition, engine speed, park brake, charge pressure, control pressure, inching, front motor begin point, drive pump pressure, and machine operation. Each step has a pass/fail criterion. Need the charge pressure spec? It’s right there in step 5. If you try to adjust the drive pump without checking charge pressure first, you’ll chase your tail for hours.
Axle Adjustments: Meritor PRA 352 Specs
The axles on these machines are Meritor PRA 352 series planetary units. The manual gives you removal, disassembly, parts lists for trumpet variations, assembly, and adjustments. Section 5 covers adjustments specifically – backlash, bearing preload, and seal installation. Use the wrong shim stack and you’ll wipe out the ring gear. The specifications table in Section 6 lists torque values for every bolt in the axle housing. These numbers come from Meritor, not from a third-party reprint.
Does This Manual Cover the Boom Cables?
Yes. The Miscellaneous section includes the 532/534 Boom Maintenance Manual. There’s a special note on boom cables – how to tension them, when to replace, and how to separate and assemble the boom sections. The crowd cylinder removal and installation procedure is also here, along with fastener torque charts for English and metric bolts, plus a hose fitting torque chart. If you’re rebuilding the boom, do not use a generic torque value on the tilt cylinder bolts. This manual has the exact spec.
Source Validity: OEM Beats a Photocopy
This is the original July 2002 release from JLG Industries. It comes as a digital PDF of the factory print. No scanned reprint, no missing pages, no hand-drawn circuits. The electrical schematic 91149012 is included. The Donaldson Cyclopac service procedure is there. Every decal diagram, every hydraulic schematic (91149111 for the 534C-9, 91159111 for the 534C-10) is legible. When you pay for an OEM document, you get the information the factory used to build the machine – not a copy of a copy that lost the fine print.
If you also work on other models, check out the JLG RS10 2013 Service Manual – Factory Specs & Diagnostics for similar detail on that platform. For the larger 544D-10, the JLG 544D-10 2007 Service Manual – 392 Pages OEM Factory Specs covers it. Older electric models are in the JLG 30e, 35e, n35e, 40e, n40e 2001 Service Manual – Factory Specs.
For background on how a Manual Transmission works, that can help when you’re diagnosing drive train issues, but this manual already gives you the factory diagnostic flow. If you need to understand the theory behind a Manual Transmission, there are resources online, but the repair procedures here are all you need to fix it.
Skip the bleed procedure? You’ll have a soft pedal. Guess the torque on a hydraulic fitting? You’ll be ordering a new pump. If you’ve ever wasted a Saturday chasing a leak from a wrong spec, you know why this manual matters. Don’t guess. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and get the correct procedure for every system on the 534C-9 and 534C-10.
Frequently Asked Questions

- It covers 534C-9 units starting serial number 0344394 through 0444002, and 534C-10 units starting serial number 0266057 through 0266106.
- Does the manual include torque specifications for hydraulic fittings?
- Yes. The Operation & Lubrication section includes a torque chart for English and metric fasteners, and the Boom Maintenance section has a separate hose fitting torque chart. You’ll also find specified torque values for axle adjustments, drive pump bolts, and the Mico brake valve assembly.
