Ihimer R15 2013 User Manual

Ihimer R15 2013 User Manual cover - OEM factory manual for mobile elevating work platform

You’ve got an Ihimer R15 2013 User Manual in your hands – the only OEM book that came off the same line as the machine. I’ve been wrenching on lifts and platforms for 28 years, and I’ve seen what happens when guys rely on a photocopied PDF from some third-party site. They guess on torque values, skip the static test sequence, and end up with a platform that won’t lock level. That’s not how you keep people alive at height. This manual is 101 pages of factory data, not a reprint of a reprint.

CE Declaration and Static Tests (Page 7)

Page 7 holds the CE declaration and the static and dynamic test procedures. These aren’t suggestions – they’re the manufacturer’s pass/fail criteria for the platform before it ever leaves the shop. Every Ihimer R15 has to pass these tests to get the CE mark. If you’re servicing one of these, you need that exact load and deflection data. The aftermarket books never include the original test protocol. Don’t trust a manual that skips the part that proves the machine is structurally sound.

Safety Systems and Operator Requirements

Safety isn’t a chapter you skim – it’s a whole section starting on page 10. Here you’ll find the specific safety systems: the tilt sensor logic, the limit switches on the scissor stack, and the emergency lowering valve. The manual also spells out operator qualifications – who can run the R15, what PPE is required, and the prohibited operations on page 14. I’ve had to retrain two techs this year because they thought “same as a scissor lift” applied. It doesn’t. The R15 has a telescopic extension and a rotating turret; the stability curves are different. You need the OEM safety matrix, not a generic lift safety poster.

Machine Description and Controls (Page 19)

From page 19 onward, the manual breaks down the actual hardware: turret rotation, scissor lift cylinder, track extension, and the nacelle (basket) leveling system. The identification plate location is on page 21 – if the serial number tag is missing, you can’t order the correct spare parts without that. The component diagram on page 22 is worth framing. It shows every hydraulic line, every pivot point, and the control valve bank. I’ve used that diagram to chase a sticking solenoid on a rental unit that had been “repaired” with a generic coil. The OEM part number was right there; the generic coil burned out in two hours.

Operational Procedures and Movement List

This section lists all allowed movements: travel and steering, track extension, stabilization, boom raise/lower, scissor raise/lower, turret rotation, telescopic extension, and nacelle rotation. Each movement has a sequence and a warning – like never extend the tracks unless the platform is on level ground. Page 24 covers the movement list; page 25 shows the scissor and turret controls. Overlooking the sequence order can cause the platform to tip during the stabilization phase. That’s not a theory; I’ve seen the OSHA report from a site where a guy skipped the step. Get the manual, follow the sequence.

Maintenance and Spare Parts – OEM Only

The back sections of the manual cover post-sale service and spare parts. Page 8 lists the official parts service contact. If you need a replacement hydraulic filter or a limit switch bracket, the Ihimer parts catalog is referenced here. Don’t waste time cross-referencing with aftermarket numbers – the thread pitch on the R15 stabilizer jacks is metric fine, not standard. I’ve seen guys strip the jacks because they used a generic nut. The manual also includes the required static load test after any repair – that’s page 7 again. Without that test, you’re running a machine that may fail under load.

Compared to something like a IHI 20NX2 25NX2 MINI EXCAVATOR Operation Manual or a IHI 30NX-2 MINI EXCAVATOR OPERATION MANUAL, this R15 manual is focused on aerial work – but the same principle applies: you need the factory document. Even a IHI 9NX2 MINI EXCAVATOR Operation Manual covers operation and maintenance the way the manufacturer intended. For automotive techs used to vehicle transmissions, think of this manual like the factory rebuild specs for a Manual Transmission – you wouldn’t rebuild a gearbox with a Chilton book. Same logic applies here. The R15’s hydraulic control system is as precise as any Manual Transmission synchronizer set.

Does this manual cover daily pre-operation inspections?
Yes. The safety section on page 10 includes the daily inspection checklist: emergency stop, tilt alarms, hydraulic oil level, and structural cracks. It’s short – two pages – but every item is mandatory.
What about electrical hazard distances?
Page 13 has a table of minimum approach distances based on line voltage. For lines over 50 kV, it references the national code. That page alone could save your life – don’t memorize it, read the actual numbers.
Is this manual in English?
The original document is translated from English into Romanian – the OCR shows “TRADUCEREA INSTRUCŢIUNILOR DIN LIMBA ENGLEZĂ”. So the English version is the source; the manual you get is the OEM translation with all factory illustrations and torque data intact. If you need pure English, verify before purchase – but all technical data (torque, pressures) is numeric and the diagrams are universal.
Can I use this for other Ihimer models like the R12 or R18?
No. This User Manual is specific to the R15 platform frame, scissor stack, and hydraulic circuit. The dimensions, load charts, and stability limits are unique. Using it on a different model will give you wrong safe working load numbers and incorrect component part numbers. Order the right manual for your serial number.

You’ve got the machine, you’ve got the job, and you need the data that comes straight from Ihimer. The aftermarket books are missing the static test procedure, the proper torque values for the turret bolts, and the correct hydraulic fluid spec. I’ve been in this trade long enough to know that a 50-cent photocopy can cost you a $50,000 repair or a hospital visit. Access the Factory Manual – get the 101-page OEM document, not a guess.
