Hyundai Seasall D170S, D170P, D170J, D150S, D150P Installation Manual

Hyundai Seasall D170 & D150 Series Engines Installation Manual cover

I’ve seen more marine engine installs sink because somebody skipped the coolant air bleed or guessed on mount bolt torque than I care to count. This is the factory book for the Hyundai Seasall D170 and D150 series – 68 pages of exactly what the engineers wrote. If you’re bolting in a D170S, D170P, D170J, D150S, or D150P, you need this on the bench next to your torque wrench. Not a photocopy of a photocopy. Not a third-party summary. The real thing.

Before you even unbox the engine, open to Chapter 1. The Engine Overview gives you the schematic diagram of the common rail diesel – page 7. That diagram alone will save you from cross-connecting fuel return lines. The Engine Suspension Eyes section on page 5 tells you exactly which lifting points the factory designed. Use the wrong eye and you’re risking a cracked block. I’ve seen it.

Engine Mount and Suspension Requirements

Chapter 2 covers the mount system. The manual lists dimensions for the mounts and includes the tool list for sterndrive models. If you’re installing in a stern drive boat, pay attention to the mount tool spec – it’s specific to that configuration. Don’t mix up D150 and D170 mount dimensions; the weights differ. The factory also calls out alignment tolerances that are not in any aftermarket access. You want the Installation Manual for those numbers, not a forum post.

Does the Manual Include Torque Specs?

Yes, but not in a separate torque table – they’re embedded in the procedures. For example, the cooling circuit hose clamps and seawater pump bolts get specific tightening values. The Cooling & Exhaust System chapter, starting on page 17, shows the seawater flow path and where those clamps sit. Page 26 in the fuel system gives you the low-pressure line routing and connection torque. If you’re used to generic manuals that say “tighten securely,” you’ll appreciate the precision here.

2 Cooling System Schematics You Must Follow

Chapter 3 gives you two separate flow diagrams: one for seawater, one for engine coolant. The seawater strainer installation procedure on page 18 includes the proper orientation – get it wrong and air locks will haunt you. The coolant air bleed procedure on page 23 is a three-step process that most installers skip. Follow it. The Cooling system on these engines uses a raw water pump with a specific impeller clearance. The manual tells you how to check it.

If you’re adding a cabin heater, section 3.3 on page 23 shows the correct tee-in points. Use the wrong port and you’ll starve the engine coolant flow. This is the kind of detail that separates a factory manual from a pirate copy.

Read the EOI Pin Assignment Before Wiring

Chapter 9 – the Engine Operating Interface (EOI) system – can trip you up if you’re not careful. The pin assignment table on page 43 lists every wire function and signal type. Connect the neutral switch wrong and the engine won’t start. The alarm lamp logic on page 41 interprets fault codes. The DTC list starting on page 49 has 30+ diagnostic codes. Without this book, you’re chasing ghosts. The Installation Manual also includes the dual EOI connection for twin-engine setups – page 45. Wire it per the diagram, not your gut.

Hyundai Seasall D170 & D150 Installation Manual: 68 Pages of Factory Data

This document covers everything from fuel quality specs (page 28) to predelivery inspection (page 60). The Engine dimensions in Chapter 1 – page 12 – give you the exact envelope so you can lay out your engine room before you lift. The maintenance schedule on page 63 lists intervals for oil, filter, and zinc anode replacement. The Suspension (engine suspension eyes) is not a separate system but is part of the lifting and mounting procedure. It’s all in one place.

FAQ – Common Questions

What models does this manual cover?
It covers Hyundai Seasall D170S, D170P, D170J, D150S, and D150P marine diesel engines.
Does it include torque specs for the cylinder head?
No. This is an installation manual, not a service manual. It includes mounting bolt torques, cooling hose clamp torques, and fuel line connection torques, but not internal engine fasteners. For head gasket replacement you need the separate service manual.
Are wiring diagrams included?
Yes. Chapter 7 (Electrical System) has battery cable connection diagrams, fuse and relay locations, and cable routing. Chapter 8 covers instrument connections. Chapter 9 has the full EOI pinout and wiring for alarm lamps, switches, and dual EOI setups.
Can I use this manual for a D150S in a sailboat?
Yes, the D150S is one of the covered models. The installation guidelines apply to any marine application – inboard, sterndrive, or sail drive. Pay extra attention to the cooling circuit for keel-cooled installations; the manual’s schematic still applies.

This is the only factory-approved Installation Manual for the D170 and D150 series. I keep a copy on my tablet and a laminated one on the shop wall. You should too. Access the Factory Manual and get the install done right – the first time, with the actual specs the engineers wrote.
