If you’re swapping an air spring or replacing a height control valve, Section 9 has the component replacement steps for the AIRTEK air spring (page 61) and height control valve (page 60).

Third: Section 13 Alignment Specifications on page 123. If you follow the troubleshooting steps, you might find a worn kingpin bushing (page 45) instead of pulling the whole axle. This is a factory Hendrickson publication – LIT NO: 17730-252, revision E, dated December 2011. It’s not a scan of a third-party copy. The parts list in Section 5 uses original Hendrickson part numbers. The plumbing diagrams in Section 10 are identical to what you’d see on a new AIRTEK system. Aftermarket manuals often redraw diagrams and lose detail. I’ve seen one where the torque symbol was replaced with a generic icon. That’s not acceptable. This manual is direct from the source. No. The 2011 manual covers specific International Truck applications. Changes in ride height specs or torque values occur across model years.

What torque value is listed for the kingpin nut?

The torque specification for the kingpin nut is found in Section 11 on page 112, but you need to reference the correct fastener size and grade. The manual lists values for each bolt location in the kingpin assembly – including the clamp group fasteners, steering arm bolts, and tie rod end cross tube. Do not assume a single number applies. The procedure on page 104 for steering knuckle assembly tells you the sequence. If you tighten the kingpin nut without the correct preload, the bushing binds and the steering pulls. Page 112 gives the final torque after the reaming step. I’ve seen a knuckle crack from overtightening. Use the manual.
