Check the VIN Before You Start

The VIN decoding section on the first page is critical. Position 4 tells you chassis configuration (B = 4×4 Canada, P = 4×2 U.S.). Positions 5-6 decode model, wheelbase, and GVWR. Position 7-8 decode engine and brake combo – e.g., 43 = 2.7L 45-state diesel with hydraulic brakes, 44 = 2.7L 50-state diesel. Model year is position 10: 4 = 2004, 5 = 2005.
