Description
Daimlerchrysler Cirrus, Sebring, Avenger Technical Manual – 994 Pages of Factory Specification

I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years. I’ve seen aftermarket manuals that list the wrong torque for a strut-to-knuckle bolt and watched a kid snap one off because he trusted the “generic” number. That’s why I keep this factory Daimlerchrysler Cirrus, Sebring, Avenger Technical Manual on the bench. If you’re working on any of these Chrysler products – Cirrus, Sebring, or Avenger – and you don’t have the OEM data, you’re gambling. This isn’t some photocopied reprint; it’s the original factory file, 994 pages, with every group from front suspension to electrical modules.
VIN Plate Decoding – Why It Matters
Page 1 gives you the full VIN plate decoding table. You need to know if that Sebring is FWD or AWD, LHD or RHD, which restraint system it has – because the brake hydraulic control unit (HCU) part differs. The manual lists position 5 codes: C for Cirrus (FWD LHD Mexico), C for Sebring (FWD LHD U.S.), D for Sebring AWD, 4 for RHD, and so on. I’ve watched guys order the wrong front axle shafts because they guessed. With this manual, you decode the VIN first, then pull the right diagram. That’s how you don’t waste a Saturday.
If you need VIN decoding for older models, check the DaimlerChrysler VIN Decoding Information 2001 Technical Manual. For a broader understanding of vehicle identification systems, refer to this Automotive Industry Overview. Additionally, you might find this Automotive Industry Overview useful.
Front Suspension Group 2: Strut and Cradle Specs
Turn to page 2 and you’re in Group 2 – Front Suspension. The manual covers the strut and cradle (Fig. 2-105 and 2-130) and the front stabilizer bar (Fig. 2-205). You get the exact torque values for the crossmember bolts, the strut-to-knuckle pinch bolt, and the stabilizer bar link nuts. I don’t have to tell you that an under-torqued strut bolt will clunk; an over-torqued one strips. The manual gives the factory spec – not a range, not a guess. Use it.
Brakes Group 5: Disc, Drum, and HCU Diagrams
Group 5 – Brakes is 19 figures deep. Front disc, rear disc, rear drum, vacuum booster, master cylinder, and the HCU with tube routing for LHD and RHD. If you’re swapping an ABS module on an Avenger, you need Fig. 5-505 for LHD or 5-510 for RHD. The manual also shows the parking brake lever and cables (Fig. 5-705) and the rear disc park brake assembly (Fig. 5-725). I’ve seen too many DIYers mix up the left and right park brake cables – the manual’s diagram makes it obvious.
For brake system deep dives on heavier models, the Daimlerchrysler Commercial Vehicle 2004 Technical Manual – Factory Brake Design covers commercial chassis.
Cooling Group 7: Water Pump and Thermostat Torque
Group 7 – Cooling includes the radiator, water pump, thermostat, reservoir, pulleys, and serpentine drive belts. The manual lists multiple water pump configurations (Figs. 7-205 through 7-220) and thermostats (Figs. 7-250 to 7-270). If you’re doing a water pump on a 2.4L Sebring, you need the pulley alignment procedure from Fig. 7-405. And the drive belt routing for the gas engine is Fig. 7-505. Aftermarket manuals often skip the belt tension spec – this one prints it right next to the diagram.
Electrical Group 8: Starter and Module Locations
Group 8 – Electrical covers starters (8-105 to 8-110), alternators (8-205 to 8-211), and modules (8-405 to 8-430) – engine compartment, instrument panel, overhead, body, and brakes/suspension/steering. If your Cirrus has a no-start and you’re chasing a module fault, Fig. 8-405 shows exactly which module is in which corner of the engine bay. You don’t guess. You open the manual, find the figure, and test the right pins.

Who Needs This Manual
Home garage guys tackling a head gasket on a Cirrus, or a clutch job on an Avenger – you need the correct fastener tightening sequence and torque. Professional techs who want to verify a spec before signing off a repair order – this is your source. Shop owners who keep liability insurance – the manual’s safety warnings about brake fluid handling and battery disconnect are there. Beginners who are afraid of breaking something: follow the figures, use the torque chart, and you’ll avoid the big mistakes.
OEM vs Aftermarket: Why This One Wins
I don’t trust aftermarket documentation on principle. They re-draw wiring diagrams and sometimes swap pinouts. This manual is the original DaimlerChrysler factory file – the same one the dealerships used. The torque values are the ones that came from the engineering group, not a third-party rewriter. You get the VIN decoding, the suspension geometry, the brake HCU routing, the clutch hydraulic control figures (Group 6, Figs. 6-305 to 6-309), and every exploded view numbered the way the factory numbered it. No shortcuts.
FAQ
- Does this manual cover the 2008 model year?
- Yes, the file is labeled 2008JS and includes 2008 model year Cirrus, Sebring, and Avenger. It also returns to 2008 Vehicle Family Index.
- Are torque values given in imperial units?
- Yes. All torque specs are printed in foot-pounds and inch-pounds. No metric-only charts. This is a North American factory manual.
- What about the all-wheel drive versions?
- Group 3590 covers All Wheel Drive – front axle drive shafts, drive shaft, rear axle assembly, and rear axle shafts. The manual includes both FWD and AWD variants for Sebring and Avenger. You’ll see two different front axle shaft sections: Group 3590 for AWD and Group 0035ZU for front-wheel drive. That’s how you avoid ordering the wrong CV axle.
- Can I print the manual?
- Yes, the PDF is 994 pages and fully printable. No encryption, no restrictions. You can take a section to the shop floor.
