Service Brakes and ABS: Group 5 – Factory Procedure

Group 5 covers front brakes (Fig. 5-120), rear disc brakes (Fig. 5-240), power brake booster (Fig. 5-320), master cylinder (Fig. 5-412), and the ABS control unit (Fig. 5-426). The manual shows the bleed sequence for the anti-lock brake control module – a step most generic manuals skip. If you don’t follow that sequence, you’ll get a soft pedal and a customer complaint within a week.

Cooling System by Engine Code – Not One-Size-Fits-All

Radiator routing changes with the engine. Fig. 7-110 covers the 2.0L and 2.4L (ECC, EDZ, EES variants). Fig. 7-120 is for the EDV engine. The water pump and pulley section (Fig. 7-240) lists tension specs for each drive belt system. 2.0L–2.4L belts are Fig. 7-510; 2.7L is Fig. 7-520. Overheat a 2.7L because you put the wrong hose on, and you’re looking at a head gasket job. The manual prevents that.

Electrical Group: Sensors, Relays, and Wiring

Group 8 is dense. Alternators: Fig. 8-205 for 2.0/2.4L, Fig. 8-215 for 2.7L. Engine sensors split by engine in Fig. 8-605 and 8-610. Transmission sensors are Fig. 8-615. The power distribution center (Fig. 8-505) and junction block (Fig. 8-510) show exact relay and fuse locations. If you have a no-start and you’re chasing a crank sensor signal, Fig. 8-605 gives you the location and connector pinout. Aftermarket wiring diagrams often swap pin numbers. This one doesn’t.

Clutch and Transmission Components – Group 6

Clutch disc and assembly are Fig. 6-110. Clutch housing bolts with their torque specs are Fig. 6-210. Clutch linkage (Fig. 6-310) and pedal assembly (Fig. 6-410) complete the group. If you don’t torque the housing bolts to spec, the clutch will chatter. The manual gives you the numbers. Use them.
