Description

DAF XF105, LF, CF 2011 Technical Manual – Bodybuilder Guidelines

DAF XF105, LF, CF 2011 Technical Manual bodybuilder guidelines cover

You have a DAF chassis in the bay and the customer wants a tipper body. The factory guy on the phone is useless. Your aftermarket booklet says “drill holes here” but doesn’t tell you the minimum edge distance or that you’ll crack the frame rail. That’s why I keep a copy of the DAF XF105, LF, CF 2011 Technical Manual within arm’s reach. This is the actual bodybuilder guidelines from DAF – 438 pages of conditions you need to meet before you even think about welding. Every dimension, every wire cross-section, every PTO spec is straight from the OEM, not some third-party rewrite.

Chassis Drilling and Welding – Factory Limits

Section 2 of this manual (Chassis Information) tells you exactly where you can drill, weld, and modify. Levelling the chassis, drilling of holes – it’s all there. Section 2.3 covers welding on the chassis. If you skip that page and burn a frame rail, you own the repair. The manual also covers replacing rivets by bolts (2.7) and wheelbase modifications (2.5). For a body builder, this chapter alone justifies the access.

What Does the Electrical System General Section Cover?

Chapter 7 runs from safety instructions through to hybrid system data for the LF45. You get circuit diagram references, earth connections, wire cross-sections and fuse sizes, charging batteries, peak voltages, EMC compatibility, maximum loads, quiescent current, additional batteries and alternators, connection points and permitted power loads, dashboard panel switches, automated gearbox interfacing, electrical retarders, taillift preparation, axle load monitoring, and the Customer Parameter Change Form guidelines. If you are adding a crane, tail lift, or extra lighting, you need this chapter. Page 73 (in the original pagination) holds the charge pressure specs – yes, this manual includes those.

438 Pages of Verified Specifications

Every page is from the 2011 DAF publication. The TOC lists chapters for General, Chassis Information, General Information on Superstructures, Superstructures (including fixed body, tail lift, tipper, tanker, concrete mixer, tractor), Cab Information, PTO and Energy Consumers, Electrical System General, Data Communication Systems, Electrical System LF Series, CF Series, and XF Series, plus application connector number lists and part numbers. You are getting the same document the DAF dealer uses. No reprints, no condensed versions.

Understand the PTO Requirements Before Installation

Chapter 6 breaks down power take-offs: clutch-independent, clutch-dependent, first and second PTO, transfer box, PTO operation, compressed air system, and tipper air feed. Mating a Manual Transmission to a PTO? The manual tells you the interface. Section 6.3 gives general PTO specifications. Don’t guess – the wrong PTO can destroy a gearbox. For more detailed wiring of the electrical side, check the DAF XF105 Electrical system Wiring Diagram and the DAF XF CF Wiring Diagram if you are working on CF series chassis.

Body Attachment Methods: BAM Instructions

Sections 3.1 through 3.18 cover superstructure with sub-frame, BAM (body attachment methods), first attachment point, and a full matrix for every DAF model: LF45, LF55, CF65, CF, XF, FAR/FAS, FAG, FAN, FAT, FAC/FAX, FAD, FAK. Each one has specific torque and attachment points. If you bolt a body to a CF using LF specs, you are asking for frame cracks. The manual prevents that. Also see the DAF LF, CF and XF105 2010 Bodybuilder Guidelines – Section: Reaction Form for feedback to factory – though this 2011 edition supersedes that.

For background on how Manual Transmission systems integrate with electronic PTO controls, this manual’s data communication chapter (8) covers CAN SAE J1939, CANopen, ISO 11992, and the Body Builders’ Module. Essential for anyone adding aftermarket electronics.

FAQ

Is this manual for engine repair or just body building?
This is a bodybuilder guideline. It focuses on chassis modifications, superstructure mounting, electrical connections, and PTO installation – not engine overhaul.
Does it include torque specs for frame bolts?
Section 2.7 covers replacing rivets with bolts but does not list explicit torque values for frame bolts in the TOC. The manual prioritizes structural attachment methods and BAM instructions.
Can I use this manual for a DAF XF105 with Euro 6?
The cover states it applies to Euro 3, 4, and 5 chassis. For Euro 6, DAF releases updated guidelines. This manual covers engines: FR, GR, PR, MX (Euro 3-5) and notes separate publication for older CE/BE/PE/PE engines.
What is the page count?
438 pages.

Get the Right Data for Your Build

If you are mounting a body on a DAF, don’t trust a generic guide. The difference between a safe attachment and a cracked chassis is a few millimeters and the correct welding procedure. This manual gives you the factory limits, the wire sizes, the PTO types, and the BAM matrices. I have seen too many second-hand trucks ruined by aftermarket body shops that skipped chapter 2. Avoid that. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and have the real spec on your tablet or printed out.
