Description

Chrysler Durango 2009 Technical Manual

Chrysler Durango 2009 Technical Manual – I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years, and I’ve seen more stripped bolts and misdiagnosed leaks from aftermarket manuals than I can count. If you’re digging into a 2009 Durango, the first thing you need is the real deal: OEM factory documentation. This 506-page PDF is straight from Chrysler. It covers everything from decoding your VIN to the last nut on the rear axle. Skip the guesswork. Here’s what matters.

Chrysler Durango 2009 Technical Manual Covers All Systems

On page 1, the VIN decoding table tells you exactly which Durango you have – 4×2, 4×4, Adventurer, Limited, SLT, SXT – and which engine is under the hood: 3.7L, 4.7L, or 5.7L. That table alone saves you from ordering the wrong front axle or brake caliper. Page 2 gives you the full Group index. You get Group 5 Brakes (front and rear disc, power booster, master cylinder, parking brake cables), Group 7 Cooling (radiator, water pump, intercooler), and all the axle groups for front and rear. No parts catalog can substitute for this level of detail when you’re on your back under the truck.

Does This Manual Cover Both Axle Options?

Absolutely. The 2009 Durango came with two different rear axles – the Corporate 210 mm (Group 003DRA) and the Corporate 235 mm (Group 003DRB). This manual has separate sections for each. Same for the front axle: Group 003DJD covers the Corporate 205 mm front differential and drive shafts. If you pull a carrier and don’t know which ring gear you have, the manual shows you Figure 003DRA-820 vs. 003DRB-820. You’ll spot the difference fast when you see the exploded diagrams with factory part numbers. I’ve had techs waste three hours because they didn’t check the axle code. Don’t be that guy.

3 Axle Types Documented

Front Axle Assembly – 003DJD-110. Rear Axle Assembly (210 mm) – 003DRA-710. Rear Axle Assembly (235 mm) – 003DRB-710. Each comes with its own housing, vent, differential assembly, and shaft parts. The manual breaks down the drive shafts and axles for each. Need to replace a front axle shaft? Figure 003DJD-310 shows the assembly with bolt patterns and seal locations. If you’re working on a Durango, you need to identify your axle type first. Use the VIN decoding on page 1, then jump to the right group. That’s how you avoid ordering the wrong parts.

Get the Right Torque Data

Every component figure in this manual lists fastener torque values. I don’t touch a wrench without knowing the spec. The aftermarket stuff? Half the time they copy from a different year or model. Here, the torque for your front suspension strut nuts is right there in Group 2, Figure 2-110. Brake caliper bracket bolts? Group 5, Figure 5-110. The water pump bolts? Group 7, Figure 7-205. Use a calibrated torque wrench, every time. If you’re dealing with a manual transmission swap in another vehicle, check out Manual Transmission for general procedures – but for this Durango, stick with the factory numbers.

MoPar Accessories: Factory Installation Guidance

Group 1 – MoPar Accessories covers everything from audio systems (Figure 1-110 Media System) to trailer wiring (Figure 1-242 4-Way and 1-243 7-Way). If you’re adding a backup camera, the manual shows Figure 1-118 with the exact mounting and routing. Installing a running board kit? Figure 1-438 gives you the bracket locations. The manual includes torque specs for each accessory. I’ve seen DIYers skip these and end up with rattling boards or a camera that stops working after a puddle. Follow the factory instructions and you’ll have a reliable install.

Who should buy this manual? Anyone who owns a 2009 Durango and wants to fix it right the first time. I’m an ASE Master Technician, and I trust OEM documentation from Chrysler – not some third-party reprint that might have a misprinted spec or missing pages. For my shop, having the correct wiring diagrams and torque values means less comebacks and happier customers. Beginners should start with the VIN table, then the cooling system (Group 7). If you run into a transmission issue on a different vehicle, Manual Transmission offers alternative diagnostics, but for this Durango, the factory manual is your only reliable source.

Is this manual for the 2009 Durango only?
Yes, it covers only the 2009 model year.
Does it include torque specs for the 4.7L engine?
Torque specs are listed in each component figure. For example, the front axle assembly (Figure 003DJD-110) includes bolt torque for the differential cover and housing. Same for brake calipers, water pump, and suspension. I always cross-check the figure notes – they specify lb-ft values for every fastener. Never guess; use a torque wrench and these factory numbers every time. That’s the difference between a repair that stays fixed and one that leaks or loosens later.
Can I use this manual for a 2008 Durango?
No – this is strictly for the 2009 model year. The VIN decoding, axle options, and accessory packages changed between years.
Is this a physical manual or a PDF?
It’s a digital PDF, 506 pages, downloadable immediately.
