Description
Chrysler 300C, SRT-8 2008 Technical Manual

Let me tell you something straight – if you’ve ever pulled apart a 300C or an SRT-8 without the factory documentation, you’ve wasted time, snapped bolts, or guessed at a torque spec that cost you a comeback. I’ve been turning wrenches in San Antonio for twenty-eight years, and I can spot a car that was rebuilt with aftermarket garbage from a hundred feet. This Chrysler 300C, SRT-8 2008 Technical Manual is the real OEM print. Not a scan of a scan. Not a third-party rehash with missing pages. This is what the engineers at DaimlerChrysler handed to the dealer techs. 746 pages of exactly what you need.
Why This Factory Manual Beats Aftermarket Trash
Every aftermarket manual I’ve seen gets the torque values wrong. Every single one. The factory document is the only source for the correct specs on the 6.1L HEMI, the 5.7L, the 3.5L V6, the 3.0L Turbo Diesel, and the 2.7L V6. The VIN decoding table on page 1 tells you which engine code matches which car – Position 8 tells you if it’s an ESF (6.1L) or EZB (5.7L). You don’t get that from a generic PDF. This manual also includes every suspension, brake, cooling, and electrical group with part numbers. I’ve seen far too many techs use a wrong strut mount because they didn’t have the line/series/body breakdown. That’s a liability. Don’t be that guy.
VIN Decoding: The First Step You’re Skipping
Before you order a single part, you decode the VIN. Page 1 of this manual has the full VIN plate interpretation – position 5 defines the vehicle line (300C or SRT-8, RWD or AWD, LHD or RHD). Position 6 gives the series (Touring, SRT-8 Touring, etc.). I’ve had guys slap on a standard 300C radiator for an SRT-8 because they didn’t check position 8. That’s a $200 mistake. This manual saves you that.
Front Suspension Group – What’s Actually In There
Group 2 covers the front suspension in detail: strut and cradle, stabilizer bar. Figure 2-105 lists every shock absorber part number by sales code – SDD, SDX, ZRB – and the correct nut (M8 x 1.25 hex nut with coned washer, part number 06506152AA). If you’re swapping struts on an AWD 300C, you need the [SDD,ZBC,ZBD,ZBG] variant. The manual tells you exactly which isolator and mount to use. No guesswork. Page 2 is where that group starts.
Brake System Documentation – Don’t Guess Torque
Group 5 covers the entire brake system: front and rear disc brakes, power brake booster, master cylinder, HCU, tubes, pedals, and parking brake assembly. The factory spec for the brake pedal mounting? It’s in there. Hydraulic control unit replacement procedure? Figure 5-505. There’s even a section on the power-adjust brake pedal with memory. If you’re bleeding the ABS module on an SRT-8, you follow the factory bleed sequence – not the generic one from a parts store. This manual has it.
Electrical and Cooling Systems – Factory Wiring
Group 8 covers starters, alternators, modules, and engine controllers. Module locations are broken down by compartment – engine, instrument panel, overhead, body, lighting, and brakes/suspension/steering modules. Group 7 gives you the cooling system: radiator, intercooler for the SRT-8 (Figure 7-175), water pump, thermostat, coolant recovery bottle, and serpentine belt routing. Forget the aftermarket belt diagram – use the factory Fig. 7-505. Also includes transmission oil cooler lines for the 5-speed automatic.
3 Reasons to Choose OEM Documentation
One: correct torque specs for every fastener in the suspension (see Group 2) and brakes (Group 5). Two: accurate wiring pinouts and module locations that aftermarket manuals love to leave out. Three: VIN-based part number lookup that stops you from ordering the wrong shock or brake booster. This manual is 746 pages of straight-up factory data. Not a reprint. Not a copy. Original OEM print.
Who Needs This Manual and Why
If you’re a home mechanic working on a 2008 300C in your garage, you need this because you don’t have the dealer’s parts catalog. If you’re a pro shop owner, you need this because liability is real – one wrong torque on a brake caliper bracket and you’re in court. The SRT-8 has specific brake packages [BR4] that require the correct master cylinder and HCU. I’ve seen guys replace a vacuum booster on a diesel 300C with a gas booster – the part numbers don’t cross. This manual stops that.
- Does this manual cover the 6.1L HEMI in the SRT-8?
- Yes.
- What about the AWD system – does it include the differential and drive shafts?
- Group 3590 covers the All Wheel Drive system: front axle assembly, drive shafts, rear axle assembly with internal parts, and vent. If you’re rebuilding the rear diff on an AWD 300C, you need Figure 3590-805 for housing and differential with internal parts. The manual also has Group 0035ZV for RWD driveline. Both are covered, with part numbers for the drive shafts (Fig. 3590-605 and 606) and axle shafts (Fig. 3590-905 for AWD, 0035ZV-910 for RWD). There’s also the stabilizer bar in Group 2 – don’t miss that.
Look, I’ve been burned by aftermarket manuals that leave out the coolant reservoir part numbers or the ABS module locations. This 2008 Technical Manual came straight from Chrysler. If you’re doing a front suspension overhaul, a brake job, or a cooling system swap on a 300C or SRT-8, you need factory spec data. I don’t care if you’ve done a hundred of these – the torque values changed between production months. This manual is your only shot at getting it right the first time. Access the Factory Manual and put it on your bench. Your knuckles will thank you.
