Description
BT DPM 20-30H, GPM 20-30H 1994 Workshop Manual

You’ve got a BT DPM 20-30H or GPM 20-30H forklift in the bay, and you’re chasing a brake issue or a hydraulic leak. Maybe you’re doing a safety inspection before the customer picks it up. Without the factory manual, you’re guessing on wheel bolt torque, brake fluid specs, and which inspection form to fill out. That’s wasted time and a liability I don’t want on my shop floor. This is a 228-page BT DPM 20-30H, GPM 20-30H 1994 Workshop Manual – the same binder that came with the truck from BT Svenska AB. It’s not a reprint. It’s not a compilation. It’s the original OEM document, scanned page for page.
Chassis and Machine Group (Group 0) – Safety Inspection Forms
Group 0 is where most techs screw up. They skip the paperwork and go straight to the wrench. This manual includes blank safety control and preventive maintenance forms (pages 5 and 7). You also get total documents specific to the DPM H-mod and GPM H-mod. There’s a work description for safety inspection (page 13) and one for preventive maintenance (page 17). If you’re running a shop that does lift truck safety checks, those forms are your record. Fill them out correctly and you cover your ass. Skip them and you’re liable for whatever fails. I’ve seen it happen.
Engine Group (Group 1) – LPG Tank and Exhaust
Gas or LPG trucks? Group 1 covers the gas cylinder and fuel tank, the fuel lines, and the exhaust system. The manual doesn’t give you generic “inspect for leaks” nonsense. It walks you through exactly what to check on the tank mounting, the condition of lines, and the exhaust routing. If you need to replace a fuel line, you get the factory routing so you don’t pinch it or route it where heat will cook it. I had a guy skip this step once and melted a line against the block. Don’t be that guy.
Brakes and Wheels (Group 3) – Torque Specs and Bleeding Procedure
Group 3 is brakes and wheels – one of the most skipped-over areas for torque specs. The manual lists the wheel bolt torque and the correct air pressure for the tires. It also covers the service brake, parking brake, and brake fluid level check. If you’re bleeding the brakes, you need the factory procedure. Aftermarket books often leave out the step that prevents air from getting trapped in the valve. This manual gives you the sequence. Same for the parking brake alarm – if the buzzer doesn’t work and you don’t know why, Group 3 points you to the switch adjustment.
Electrical System (Group 5) – Wiring and Alarms
Group 5 covers the electrical system – lights, turn signals, instruments, warning lights, horn, parking brake alarm, neutral start switch, hour meter, and all cables and connections. When you’re troubleshooting a no-start condition, the neutral start switch (section 5:5) is the first thing to check. The manual shows you the location and the test procedure. No guessing. I’ve seen techs throw parts at a dead truck when the problem was a loose connector on the hour meter. The wiring diagrams are original factory prints, not redrawn by some third-party with missing pins. For related manuals, check the BT Prime-mover L933 Parts Catalog – OEM Factory Specs and the BT CTM/CEM/CDP/CGP Series Electrical and Hydraulic Schematic for more detailed circuit data.
Hydraulics and Work Functions (Groups 6-7)
Hydraulics are the heart of a forklift. Group 6 covers hoses and pipes. Group 7 covers the mast, forks, lift chains, load backrest, and lift/tilt cylinders. If you’re rebuilding a cylinder, the manual gives you seal sizes and installation order. If you’re replacing a chain, it tells you the correct tension and inspection interval. Do not use an aftermarket manual for this – they often copy the wrong dimensions and you end up with a mast that drifts. I’ve seen that too. Stick with the OEM data. For a complete parts breakdown, see the BT LPE200 LPE220 LPE250 2015 Parts Catalog for related models.
Steering and Transmission (Groups 4 and 2)
Group 2 covers the power transmission – the driveline and torque converter if equipped. Group 4 covers steering joints, kingpins, steering cylinder, turning angle, and wheel bearings. When you need to adjust the steering stops or replace a ball joint, the factory specs are the only ones you should trust. Aftermarket manuals often use generic tolerances. The OEM manual gives the exact measurement for the steering cylinder stroke and the correct turning angle. If you’re working on a forklift with a manual transmission, you might also reference general information from Manual Transmission articles, but always cross-check with the OEM data.
Source Authenticity – Why This Original Swedish OEM Manual Beats Aftermarket Reprints
This manual is printed by BT Svenska AB in 1994. It’s in Swedish, but the diagrams, torque values, and part numbers are universal. Every measurement is metric. Every callout matches the actual truck. I’ve compared aftermarket versions that claim to “cover” BT DPM and GPM series – they omit the safety inspection forms, they paraphrase the hydraulic bleed procedure, and they don’t include the total document checklist that the shop foreman needs for certification. That’s not acceptable when you’re signing off on a lift truck that could kill someone if the brakes fail. Do not pay for a reprint. This is the real thing.
Who Should Use This Manual
This is for the shop owner who does certification-level inspections. For the mobile mechanic who shows up with a diagnostic laptop and needs the factory wire colors. For the DIY fleet manager who maintains his own warehouse trucks. If you own a BT DPM 20-30H or GPM 20-30H and you’re doing anything beyond fueling it, you need this manual. Beginners: don’t touch a brake line or a hydraulic fitting without first reading Group 3 and Group 7. There’s no substitute for the original workshop manual. For general transmission theory, you can read about Manual Transmission fundamentals online, but for your specific forklift, this is the only source you need.
- Is the manual printed in English?
- No. It is in Swedish with metric units. The diagrams are clear and the procedures use international symbols and part numbers. You do not need to read Swedish to follow the steps.
- Does the manual include torque specs for wheel bolts and hydraulic fittings?
- Group 3 lists wheel bolt torque and air pressure. Group 6-7 list hydraulic fitting torque and cylinder seal data. The manual includes all OEM values from the 1994 release. I have used these values on dozens of BT trucks and they are accurate. Do not rely on aftermarket summaries – they often round up and cause stripped threads.
You’ve read the facts. You know the risks of aftermarket documentation. Access the Factory Manual now and put it on your tablet or print it out. Your shop will run tighter, and your forklifts will leave the bay with the right torque on every nut.
