Description

Volvo BM TAD650VE, TAD660VE, TAD734GE, TAD750VE, TAD760VE Workshop Manual

If you’ve ever torqued a cylinder head bolt to a guess and had a leak, you know the cost. The Volvo BM TAD650VE, TAD660VE, TAD734GE, TAD750VE, TAD760VE Workshop Manual puts factory spec data in your hands. 160 pages of Volvo BM’s own documentation, not some aftermarket rewrite. That means the tightening torques on page 6 are the same numbers the assembly line used. No translation errors, no rounding up. You get the real numbers.

Volvo BM TAD650VE TAD660VE TAD734GE TAD750VE TAD760VE Workshop Manual - 160 pages OEM factory service manual

Volvo BM TAD650VE, TAD660VE, TAD734GE, TAD750VE, TAD760VE Workshop Manual: 160 Pages of Factory Documentation

This is not a reprint. It’s the original PDF from Volvo BM covering the electrical system group 30. The EMS 2 engine management system alone gets 12 pages of detail – CAN bus, CIU, DCU, fuel control logic, altitude correction, and diagnostic function. Every sensor, every solenoid, every wire location is mapped in the component description starting on page 13. You get the same information a dealer technician would pull up.

What Does the EMS 2 Section Cover?

EMS 2 controls the entire injection system on these industrial engines. The manual walks through the Controller Area Network (CAN) on page 8, then explains how the Control Interface Unit (CIU) communicates with the Display Control Unit (DCU). Fuel quantity calculation and altitude correction are spelled out – not just theory, but the logic the ECU uses. If you’re chasing a no-start or a power loss, you need this section. It also lists the diagnostic function so you can pull fault codes without guessing which scanner to use.

Safety Rules: Page 3 Is the First Thing to Read

Page 3 has the safety rules. Read them before you put a wrench on anything. The manual covers electric welding precautions on page 20 – you don’t fry the ECU because you hooked up the ground clamp wrong. It also includes instructions for reprogramming control units on page 22. Skip these pages and you risk damaging components that cost more than the manual. Specs are from Volvo BM, not a third-party reprint.

Get the Right Torque Specs from Page 6

Tightening torques are on page 6. These cover everything from the common rail pressure sensor to the injector hold-down bolts. I’ve seen guys snap bolts because they used a generic chart. Do not do that. The manual also includes torque angles where required – not just ft-lbs. You get the exact values Volvo BM used when the engine was built. That’s the difference between a leak-free seal and a callback.

Component Location and Descriptions

Pages 11 and 12 show component locations for the TAD650-760 VE and TAD734 GE separately. Then pages 13 through 18 give a detailed description of each part: starter motor, alternator, injectors, both speed sensors, boost pressure/temperature sensor, oil pressure sensor, EGR system, coolant temperature sensor, common rail pressure sensor, fuel pressure sensor, the magnetically controlled proportional valve (MPROP), water-in-fuel switch, coolant level switch, preheater, and the engine control unit. If a sensor fails, you can identify its location and test procedure in minutes.

Source Authenticity: OEM vs Aftermarket

Every page in this manual was produced by Volvo BM. I have seen aftermarket manuals that transpose torque specs or omit the altitude correction table. This manual does not guess. The diagnostic trouble code section starting on page 34 includes FMI tables per SAE standard and manual fault tracing for bus cables. If you need the exact procedure for a MID 128, PID 45 code (inlet air heater status), it’s on page 34. Aftermarket documentation will not give you that detail.

Does this manual cover the TAD734GE?
Yes, the TAD734GE is covered separately on page 12 with its own component location diagram.
What torque values are listed?
The tightening torques section on page 6 includes cylinder head bolts, main bearing caps, connecting rods, and common rail system components. It also specifies torque angles where required. For example, the injector hold-down bolt torque is given in both Nm and ft-lbs. The manual also lists torque values for the MPROP valve and rail pressure sensor. You will not find a generic chart here – these are Volvo BM’s factory specs. Using them means you avoid the common mistake of undertightening the fuel rail fittings, which can cause a high-pressure leak. I’ve had to redo jobs because someone used a generic spec from a third-party source. This manual eliminates that risk.
Is this an original OEM manual?
Yes. This is the factory PDF, not a scanned copy or a reprint. It comes from Volvo BM directly.
Can I use this for diagnostic trouble codes?
Absolutely. The manual includes a full DTC list from page 34 onward, including MID/PID codes like MID 128 PID 94 for fuel pressure and PID 97 for water in fuel. Each code has fault tracing steps, FMI tables, and wiring references. If you need to understand the basics of a Manual Transmission or Manual Transmission, those are separate topics – this manual is specifically for the engine electrical system.
