Description
Toyota 1ZZ-FE 2007 Service Manual

I’m Mike Callahan, 28-year ASE Master Tech in San Antonio. I’ve seen more than a few starters ruined by guys who thought they could wing it with a generic manual. The Toyota 1ZZ-FE 2007 Service Manual is the factory-issued document for the starting system on that engine. 149 pages of no-nonsense OEM data – not a reprint, not a compilation. This is the same book Toyota dealers used when I was in the shop.
Parts location? Page ST-1 has it – starter, ECM, engine room relay block, ALT fuse, AM2 fuse, park/neutral position switch. The system diagram on page ST-3 shows exactly how the battery connects through the ignition switch to the starter relay and ECM. If you’re chasing a no-crank or a slow crank, you need this wiring.
Starting System Breakdown: Parts Location and Diagram
You get the full PARTS LOCATION (ST-1) with callouts for every component. Then the SYSTEM DIAGRAM (ST-3) covers both automatic and manual transaxle versions – note the clutch pedal switch for manual. The ECM pin STA is shown connecting to the park/neutral switch or clutch switch. Without this diagram, you’re guessing which wire goes where.
Does This Manual Cover the Smart Entry System?
It does. The manual includes a SMART section with ACC relay on-vehicle inspection (page ST-139), ignition relay inspection (ST-140), and full ENGINE SWITCH COMPONENTS removal/inspection/installation (ST-141-143). Also IGNITION SWITCH COMPONENTS (ST-144-147). If your 1ZZ-FE has push-button start, this is the document you need.
Factory Specs: Why You Can’t Use Aftermarket Data
Aftermarket manuals love to generalize. They’ll give you “torque to spec” without telling you that spec is 29 ft-lb for the starter bolts. This manual has the exact OEM values. Fuse ratings are given – ALT, AM2, AM2 NO.2, AM1 – all with amperages. The relay pinouts are from the factory. I’ve had to redo jobs because a third-party manual had the wrong relay terminal numbers. Don’t waste your time.
4 Key Procedures You Must Follow
First: ACC relay on-vehicle inspection – test continuity with a multimeter between specific terminals. The manual gives you the exact terminal numbers and expected readings. Second: Ignition relay inspection – same process, but the relay may be in a different location (see parts location). Third: Engine switch removal – the manual tells you to disconnect the battery negative terminal and wait at least 90 seconds for the SRS capacitor to discharge. Then you remove the steering column covers, disconnect the switch connector, and press the release tabs to slide the switch out. Fourth: Ignition switch removal – involves removing the steering column upper and lower covers, then releasing the lock cylinder retaining pin. The manual shows which direction to turn the key to release it. Each step has inspection criteria – the manual tells you what resistance values are acceptable for each circuit. Skip these steps and you’ll be back in there next week.
Who Needs This Toyota 1ZZ-FE Service Manual?
If you’re a DIY mechanic replacing a starter on your Corolla or Matrix with the 1ZZ-FE, this manual pays for itself. If you’re a pro who needs the factory wiring diagram for a no-start diagnosis, this is faster than searching online forums. Beginners can use it if they follow the safety warnings – the manual explicitly warns to disconnect the battery and wait for the SRS capacitor to discharge before touching any ignition components. You don’t get that in a Haynes.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does this manual cover the entire 1ZZ-FE engine?
- No, it covers only the starting system of the 1ZZ-FE engine.
- Is it the same as what Toyota dealerships use?
- Yes, this is a direct factory scan of the official Toyota service manual. It contains the exact same torque specs, diagrams, and procedures that Toyota dealerships use. The only difference is the binding – you get a digital PDF instead of a paper binder. However, note that this section is only the starting system portion of the full service manual. If you need the complete engine overhaul, you’ll want the full engine manual. But for starting system problems, this is the exact document a dealer technician would pull up on their workstation.
- What tools do I need for the procedures?
- Standard hand tools: socket set, torque wrench (lb-ft and in-lb), multimeter, screwdrivers. The manual lists required tools for each step.
- Can I print the manual?
- Yes, the PDF is printable. Recommended to print the parts location diagram and the removal/installation pages for the component you are working on. That way you keep your greasy hands off the screen.
