Serial Number Decoding – Critical for Part Identification

Page 3 of this catalog walks you through reading the serial number on your machine. Before September 1, 2016, the format includes model year and facility code. After that date, the format drops the year digit. Get that wrong and you order axle components that don’t line up. I’ve seen guys do it. The manual shows exactly where the serial number is stamped on the chassis and how to interpret each digit. Use that information to match the correct column in every parts figure.

Decals Section: Why It Matters

No generic diagrams. You get the exact nut, bolt, bushing, and seal. I’ve rebuilt AL4L axles using the part numbers from this manual – the fit was spot on. This is a Terex factory publication – part number 228775 Rev B6. The copyright page warns that product specifications change, and that continuous improvement is policy. An aftermarket reprint doesn’t carry those updates. If you buy a third-party PDF, you risk getting scanned pages from an earlier revision with wrong serial number breaks. I’ve had customers call me after ordering parts from a knockoff catalog and getting the wrong decal kit. Don’t do that.
