Description

Rexworks SP-848D, SP-848DH Service Manual

I’ve had enough rollers come through my shop with stripped threads and misrouted hydraulic lines to tell you: don’t touch a Rexworks SP-848D or SP-848DH without the factory book. This Rexworks SP-848D, SP-848DH Service Manual is 182 pages of what Rexworks actually wants you to do. Not some generic rewrite. You want to rebuild a vibratory drum or trace a short in the wiring? You need the original documentation, not a third-party guess.

Rexworks SP-848D, SP-848DH Service Manual – Wiring Diagram and Electrical Components

Electrical gremlins in a roller will eat your billable hours. This manual dedicates pages 508-78 through 508-92 to lights, speedometer, back-up alarm, circuit breakers, battery service, and the main system wiring diagram. I’ve traced more than a few shorts using that schematic. The diagram on page 508-92 shows every wire from the battery to the instrument cluster. You don’t need to guess which terminal is which. It’s all there – including the optional light circuits and the back-up alarm wiring. If you’re working on the PC board assembly (page 508-40) or the frequency meter assembly (page 508-38), the manual gives you the pinouts and test points. Don’t start cutting wires without it.

Safety Rules and Specifications – Why They Matter

Page 508-1 lists safety rules that apply to the whole machine. I’ve seen guys skip the section on material lost in transit (page 508-3) and then complain about missing parts. The manual tells you what to check when the roller arrives. After that, the specification sheet on page 508-4 gives you fluid capacities, tire pressures, and torque values for the drum and axles. You need the correct oil weight for the hydraulic tank assembly (page 508-44)? It’s in the specs. Want the torque for the drum drive gear case (page 508-128)? That number is factory-original. Don’t trust a generic chart.

Hydraulic System Schematics – Steering and Traction Drive

Hydraulic leaks and misrouted lines are dangerous. This manual has separate schematics for the steering system (page 508-98), the traction drive (page 508-118), and the vibration drive (page 508-132). Each schematic shows you the exact hose routing and port designations. If you’re replacing the power steering cylinder (page 508-102) or rebuilding the two-speed hydrostatic transmission axle (page 508-113.1), you need these diagrams. I’ve seen a guy hook up the pressure line to the return port – don’t be that guy. The manual also includes service procedures for the hydraulic cylinder (page 508-105) and the ORBITOL control (page 508-108). Follow them exactly.

Vibratory Drum Disassembly – Driven End and Shaft Assembly

The vibratory drum is the heart of the roller. The manual breaks down the driven end assembly (page 508-131.1) and the shaft assembly (page 508-131.2) for both models. You get exploded views and torque specs for the bearings and seals. The vibration meter pick-up assembly is covered separately for the SP-848D (page 508-138) and the SP-848DH (page 508-140). If you’re replacing the pneumatic vibration isolators (page 508-142), the manual tells you the correct air pressure and installation sequence. No shortcuts.

Audience: Is This Manual for You?

If you own a Rexworks SP-848D or SP-848DH vibratory roller and you do your own repairs, this manual is for you. Small shops that take in roller work will save time by having the factory specs on hand. Even if you’re a home-garage enthusiast with a used roller, this book keeps you from turning a simple seal replacement into a full rebuild. The manual assumes you know basic tools but not the specific Rexworks procedures. It’s written for the mechanic who actually turns wrenches.

Source Authenticity – OEM Factory Print vs Aftermarket

This is the original Rexworks service manual, manual number 508. The index shows every section from the forward through the parts index (page 508-148). There are no generic diagrams or guessed torque values. I’ve compared aftermarket manuals to this one – they miss details like the recommended daily test for the emergency/parking brake (page 508-114). That test could save your life. If you want to know the difference between OEM and a third-party reprint, look at the wiring diagram. Aftermarkets often delete the fuse ratings or merge circuits. This manual doesn’t.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual cover both the SP-848D and SP-848DH?
Yes. The manual covers both models. Index listings separate them for decals, instruction plates, and vibration meter pickup assemblies.
Are torque specs provided for the drum and axle?
Torque values are given in the specifications section and in the component breakdowns. For example, the drum drive gear case assembly on page 508-128 includes bolt torque. You must use the manual – don’t rely on memory.
Is the wiring diagram accurate for all optional equipment?
The wiring diagram on page 508-92 covers the main system, including optional lights, speedometer, and back-up alarm. Optional ROPS and vandalism kit wiring are shown in their respective sections. The manual is specific to the factory harness – aftermarket add-ons are not included.
Is this a reprint or an original OEM manual?
This is an original Rexworks factory service manual, manual number 508. It is not a third-party reproduction. The pages are scanned from the original print run. No content has been altered or omitted.

I’ve been on the floor for 28 years. I don’t have time to chase down bad specs. If you’re working on a Rexworks roller, don’t guess. Access the Factory Manual and get the job done right the first time.
