Perkins M92B, M92, M115T, M130C, M135 Installation Manual

Perkins M92B Installation Manual cover – 90 pages factory spec

I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years, and I’ve seen what happens when someone installs a marine diesel without the factory documentation. The Perkins M92B, M92, M115T, M130C, M135 Installation Manual is 90 pages of what Perkins expects for a proper fit. Not a repair guide. Not a generic handout. This is the exact document that came out of Wimborne Marine Power Centre – Issue 11, April 2009. If you are dropping one of these engines into a pleasure boat or commercial hull, you need the mounting angles, shaft alignment specs, and cooling system layout from this manual. Period.

Over the years, aftermarket “installation” PDFs have cost me billable hours because they guess at bolt torque or leave out the bonding system. This Perkins manual gives you the real data. I’m going to walk through what is inside, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Installation Manual: Engine Mounting for M92B, M92, M115T, M130C, M135

Engine mounting is where most installers mess up. Page 1 gives you the location of engine installation points. Section 1.1 covers installation angles – you need to know that these engines have a maximum tilt spec both fore-aft and side-to-side. Section 1.2 lists the mounting brackets Perkins designed for each model. Do not use generic steel brackets. Section 1.4, Engine Bearers, specifies how to fabricate the bed that supports the whole assembly. Torque values for the flexible mounts? They are in there. I would not torque a mount bolt without checking this section first.

Propeller Shafts: Alignments That Matter

Section 2 of the manual goes through propeller shafts and couplings. If you get the alignment wrong, you will eat up bearings and stuffing boxes in under 50 hours. Section 2.1 covers shaft diameter recommendations and alignment tolerances. Section 2.2 shows the gearbox output coupling fitting. For more on manual transmissions, check Manual Transmission – but the coupling specs here are for the specific Perkins gearbox interfaces. Follow them. For additional related Perkins documents, see the Perkins Installation Manual series.

Exhaust Systems: Wet, Dry, and Water Lift

Exhaust routing kills more installations than fuel contamination. Section 3 breaks down four types: wet, dry, part dry/part wet, and water lift. Each has specific backpressure limits and hose routing diagrams. Section 3.3 on part wet systems is particularly useful for repowers where you are keeping part of the old exhaust. Do not guess the hose diameter or the rise height – it is all on page 11 through 22. If you are working with a larger engine like the M300Ti, that is covered in the Perkins 4000 Series Diesel Installation Manual.

7 Major Systems in 90 Pages

This manual organizes the install into seven sections: Engine Mounting, Propeller Shafts, Exhaust, Engine Room Ventilation, Cooling Systems, Fuel Systems, and Engine Electrical Systems. Each section starts with a system diagram and then gives model-specific data. For example, Section 5 shows raw water systems for all models, then breaks out keel cooling separately for M115T, M92, M92B (page 29) versus M135 and M130C (page 28). That level of detail keeps you from ordering the wrong heat exchanger pickup.

Fuel and Electrical – Where Mistakes Happen

Section 6 – fuel connections – is two pages of banjo bolt sizes, return line routing, and lift pump pressure checks. Section 7 is the electrical system: wiring looms, fuseboard, and a dedicated subsection 7.3 for circuit protection on the M92B only (page 44). It also covers the inverter/converter fitting instructions and the zinc anode bonding system (page 52). If you skip the bonding circuit, you will get galvanic corrosion in a saltwater slip. I have pulled engines out after two years that looked like a rusted anchor. Don’t be that guy.

For a complete lineup of Perkins marine installation manuals, the Perkins 1200E Series 2011 Installation Manual covers the later electronic engines. But for these naturally aspirated and turbocharged four‑ and six‑cylinder models, this M92B/M92/M115T/M130C/M135 manual is the one you need. Also see the external resource on Manual Transmission for supplementary drivetrain info if your boat uses a separate gearbox.

One more thing: the manual lists engine sequence numbers and specific factory bulletins. This is not a reprint from a third party. It is a direct scan of the original Perkins TPD 1317e publication.

FAQ

Does this manual cover the M185C or M225Ti engines?
No. Those models are listed on the cover but are not included in this 90‑page document. The manual covers M92B, M92, M115T, M130C, and M135 only.
Are torque values given for every bolt in the installation?
The manual provides torque specifications for engine mounting bolts, flexible mount fasteners, and coupling bolts. It does not list torque for every fastener on the engine – that is in the service manual. For installation‑critical joints, the specs are there.
What tool list is included?
The manual does not have a separate tool list page. However, the step‑by‑step procedures imply the need for standard metric sockets, torque wrench (ft‑lb), dial indicator for shaft alignment, and a multimeter for electrical checks. If you have a basic marine mechanic’s tool kit, you are set.
Does the electrical section include a wiring diagram for the instrument panel?
Yes. Section 7.5 covers the instrument panels (page 47) with wiring diagrams for the tachometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure, and charge indicator. It also shows the interconnection cable (7.4) and the battery/starter cable requirements (7.6). That section alone can save you from blowing a gauge cluster on first startup.

If you are serious about getting that Perkins into the water without a leak or a vibration, you need the factory documentation. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and keep it on the workbench.
