Beginners often skip the safety precautions on page 2 – Viton seals, welding precautions, environmental stuff. Don’t be that guy. Read the safety section before you pull the head. The manual tells you which lift equipment to use, engine views, identification numbers.

Crankshaft Assembly: What You Need to Know – Chapter 5

Chapter 5 covers the crankshaft assembly starting at page 63. You get the main bearing cap torque, end float checks, and how to measure the crankshaft for wear. If you’re rebuilding a bottom end, you need the factory tolerances. I’ve had guys try to reuse a crank that was 0.003″ out of round because they didn’t have the spec. Fuel system troubleshooting starts on page 103. Injection timing, pump removal, injector service – it’s all factory procedure.
