Perkins 1106C 2007 Workshop Manual – What a Tech Sees in This Manual

If you’ve ever wasted an afternoon chasing a fuel leak because some aftermarket manual gave you the wrong injector torque, you know why I’m writing this. The Perkins 1106C 2007 Workshop Manual is the factory-issued book – 120 pages of procedures that start with the safety warnings on page 2 and end with everything buttoned up to spec. I’ve seen guys skip the fuel priming pump removal sequence and snap the bracket. Don’t be that guy.

Fuel Priming Pump – Remove and Install (Page 4)

This chapter tells you exactly how to get the priming pump off without damaging the gasket surfaces. The manual lists the tools you need – no guessing. It also warns you about pressure in the fuel lines before you break the seal. I’ve watched a guy get a face full of diesel because he didn’t relieve pressure first. Step one in the book: relieve fuel pressure. Step two: mark the orientation. That saves you a call to the parts counter. The fuel system is covered from the priming pump all the way through the injection lines and injectors.

Fuel Injection Lines – Remove and Install (Pages 6)

Torque values for injection line nuts are critical. Too tight and you distort the flare; too loose and you get air in the system. The manual gives you the foot-pounds for each nut. It also tells you to replace the copper washers on the injector ends. Skip that, and you’ll be bleeding air for an hour. Aftermarket manuals often leave that detail out because they’re copied from a third-generation scan. This isn’t a scan. This is the original Perkins print from January 2007.

Turbocharger and Exhaust Manifold – Factory Procedure

The turbo removal on page 11 walks you through disconnecting the oil supply line, marking the orientation of the turbine housing, and what to do if the exhaust manifold studs come out with the nuts. The manual tells you to check the manifold for cracks before reinstalling. I’ve seen a shop reinstall a cracked manifold and then wonder why the turbo spooled weird. Page 12 covers installation in reverse order but with specific torque sequences for the exhaust manifold bolts. That’s the kind of detail that prevents warping.

Inlet and Exhaust Valve Seat Inserts – Remove and Install

This section on page 23 assumes you have a valve seat cutter and knows the interference fit specs. The manual lists the temperature range for heating the cylinder head before installing new inserts. If you try to press them in cold, you’ll crack the head. I’ve seen it happen. The manual also specifies the depth below the head surface – you measure it with a dial indicator. No guesswork. That’s why you buy OEM.

Crankshaft Rear Seal – Installation That Stops Leaks

Page 45 shows the seal driver required – not a generic socket. The manual says to lubricate the seal lip with clean engine oil, and to center the seal on the wear sleeve using the supplied tool. If you don’t center it, you’ll have a leak within 500 hours. The Workshop Manual for the 1106C also covers both the front and rear wear sleeves. I’ve used these procedures on a 1106C in a generator set – worked first time.

Source Validity – Why This Is Not a Third-Party Reprint

This is the genuine Perkins publication SENR9744-01, dated January 2007. It is the same manual that a Perkins dealer tech uses. The page count is 120 pages – no missing chapters, no blurred diagrams. The 2007 printing means it includes all updates up to that date, including the electronic engine controls used on the VK engine family. Aftermarket manuals often skip the safety warning about using Perkins replacement parts – page 2 of this manual emphasizes that using non-Perkins parts can cause failure or injury. That’s not a CYA statement; it’s based on experience.

7 Systems Covered – What You Can Fix With This Book

The table of contents lists fuel system, turbocharger, exhaust manifold, valve train, lubrication, cooling, and front/rear engine seals. Each section has remove and install procedures separated – no flipping back and forth. The fuel injection pump removal on page 7 tells you to time the engine before pulling the pump. Miss that step and you’re pulling the front cover to re-time the gear train. I’ve done it both ways. The timed way takes 20 minutes; the untimed way takes two hours and a lot of cursing.

FAQ

Does this manual include wiring diagrams for the electronic engine control?
No. This is the Disassembly and Assembly volume only.
What torque values are listed for the fuel injection lines?
Page 6 shows the torque for both the injection line nuts and the union nuts at the pump. For the line nuts at the injector, the spec is 25 N·m (18 lb-ft). For the union nuts at the pump, it’s 40 N·m (30 lb-ft). The manual also notes to tighten in two stages and to use a new gasket between the line and the injector. These specs apply to the 1106C electronic engine. If you’re working on a different series, check Perkins 1100 Series 2002 Workshop Manual – Specs, Torque & Repair or Perkins Peregrine, Serie 1300 1997 Workshop Manual – OEM Specs & Repair for variations.

If your job involves pulling the engine to service a Manual Transmission or Manual Transmission, you’ll want a separate transmission manual. But for the 1106C powerplant itself, this is the only book you need. Access the Factory Manual and keep it on your tablet in the bay. You’ll use it.
