Mercedes-benz Atego 2010 Technical Manual

Mercedes-benz Atego 2010 Technical Manual cover page showing truck and specifications

If you are working on a Mercedes-benz Atego 2010 Technical Manual is what you need. Not a reprint. Not a third-party compilation. A factory-level document that covers both the first generation (1998-2004) and the second generation (2004-2008). I have seen too many comebacks because a tech guessed a head bolt torque. This manual ends that guesswork. It is 248 pages of Russian-language text and diagrams, but the numbers are universal. Nm values, clearances, wiring colors – they do not change with language.

Engine and Transmission Specs: What You Need on the Bench

The manual starts with technical characteristics: engine displacement, compression, injection timing, transmission gear ratios. You get the full load. Page 73 lists the tightening torques for cylinder head bolts and main bearing caps. I keep a copy dog-eared at that page. Do not rely on aftermarket conversion charts. They drift. This is the factory original from the publisher Дизель, printed in 2010. The spec is for the OM904 and OM906 engines. If you are swapping a head or rebuilding a bottom end, you go to page 73.

Maintenance Schedule: When to Service the Atego

Second chapter covers servicing intervals and procedures. Oil change intervals, filter replacements, belt tension checks. The book gives both First Generation and Second Generation values side by side. A common mistake is using the older belt tension spec on the newer engine. Page 126 (the maintenance table) shows the difference. Ignore that and you will have a belt in the cooling fan. The manual includes a required tool list – nothing fancy, just standard metric sockets, torque wrenches, and a dial indicator for pump timing. You can run through the 30k interval without lifting a special tool.

Repair Procedures: Replacing a Cylinder Head Without a Comeback

The repair section covers engine, transmission, driveline, and chassis. I focus on the cylinder head procedure because that is where most shortcuts cause trouble. The factory sequence is: remove intake, exhaust, injectors, then head bolts in reverse torque sequence. Surface cleaning – the manual specifies a flatness tolerance of 0.05 mm across the deck. No shop manual I trust gives you that unless it is OEM. The book also covers the injection pump timing adjustment. If you have ever fought with a Bosch pump on an Atego, you know the factory mark alignment is the only way. This manual shows the timing pin hole location and the lock bolt sequence.

Wiring Diagrams: Tracing an ABS Fault

Electrical schematics take up the last quarter of the book. Both generations, separate diagrams. The ABS controller pins are labeled with wire colors and connector views. I had a customer with a flickering ABS light on a 2005 Atego. The aftermarket wiring diagram I found online showed a different pinout. This manual had the correct pin for the wheel speed sensor return. Fixed in one hour instead of three. The manual also covers the power distribution, CAN bus lines, and the glow plug relay circuit. If you work on Daimler trucks, you need this.

3 Reasons to Choose OEM Documentation

First, accuracy. The torque specs, wiring colors, and adjustment values come from Mercedes-Benz, not a third-party editor. Second, completeness. The manual covers two generations in one volume. Third, the 2010 publication date includes updates from the manufacturer for the second generation trucks. Aftermarket books often stop at the first edition. Compare with the Mercedes-Benz Atego 2001 Training Manual if you want deeper training on the drivetrain. For chassis and body repair, see the Mercedes-Benz Actros Axor Atego Construction Manual. And for towing and recovery, the Mercedes-Benz Atego Towing – Recovery Manual covers the specifics. External reference: Manual Transmission rebuild specs are in this manual too. Also, Manual Transmission gear ratios for the G85-6 are listed.

Is this manual in English?
No, it is in Russian. But torque values and clearances are numbers. If you cannot read Russian, the diagrams and numerical tables still work.
Does it cover both generations?
Yes. First generation 1998-2004 and second generation 2004-2008. Separate chapters for each.
What about wiring diagrams – are they complete?
Complete for both generations. Includes ABS, engine management, lighting, and body electrics. Connector pinouts and wire colors are factory-coded. I have used them to trace a short in the brake light circuit on a 2003 Atego and it matched the truck exactly.
Are the torque values in Nm or ft-lbs?
The manual gives values in Nm. I prefer that because there is no conversion error. If you absolutely need ft-lbs, use a calculator – but do not use an online converter that rounds. The spec for head bolts is 190 Nm plus 90° turn. That is not something you fudge. Page 73 has the full table. Aftermarket manuals often list an average value that is wrong for the Atego OM904. This book has the real number.

That is the manual. If you work on Mercedes-Benz Atego trucks, you need it on your bench. Do not trust a PDF from a forum. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and have the real spec in your hands.
