Manitou MSI 20 D, MSI 20 D BUGGIE, MSI 25 D, MSI 25 D BUGGIE, MSI 30 D 2002 Operators Manual

Manitou MSI 20 D Operators Manual 2002 cover page

I’ve been wrenching on lift trucks in San Antonio for twenty-eight years. If you’re the guy who walks past a manual and tries to “figure it out,” you’re about to waste half a day and maybe blow a hydraulic seal. This 2002 Manitou MSI 20 D, MSI 20 D BUGGIE, MSI 25 D, MSI 25 D BUGGIE, MSI 30 D 2002 Operators Manual is what you keep in the truck – not on a shelf. 120 pages, factory printed in France, covering machines up to serial number 139125. No aftermarket nonsense. Here’s what you actually get.

Operating and Safety Instructions: What the Dealer Won’t Tell You

Section 1 covers operating and safety instructions. Page references are marked in the TOC, but the meat is in the driver’s instructions – load handling, caution notes, and the procedure for starting a new lift truck. If you’ve ever had a load tip because you skipped the stability check, this section slaps you straight. The manual tells you to read it before turning the key. I’ve seen too many guys skip the “BEFORE STARTING UP A NEW LIFT TRUCK” page and then wonder why the mast creeps. That page alone saves you a cylinder reseal.

Identification and Characteristics: Page 2-4

Section 2 gives you the lift truck identification, characteristics, mast specs, and the dimension and load chart. For the MSI 30 D with overhead guard, you get the instrument and control layout. The cab model section is separate – pay attention, because the pedal layout changes. The electrical and hydraulic options are described in detail. Need the charge pressure for the MSI 25 D BUGGIE? Page 2-22. That’s factory data, not something a forum guy guessed.

Maintenance Schedule: Filters, Lubricants, and Belts

Section 3 is where the real work happens. Filters cartridges and belts are listed with part numbers. Lubricants and fuel specs – don’t trust the parts store clerk. The servicing schedule is laid out in hours. I run a six-bay shop; I’ve seen what cheap oil does to a Deutz. This manual tells you the correct grade and capacity. If you’re doing a 500-hour service on a MSI 20 D, you follow the table on page 3-6. Miss a belt inspection and you’re buying a fan hub.

Adaptable Attachments: Technical Specifications

Section 4 covers attachments in option – introduction, technical specs, and attachment shields. If you’re adding a side-shift or a rotator, the manual gives you the installation parameters. I’ve had aftermarket attachments throw off the load center. The factory data here keeps the truck stable. The attachment shields section is worth reading if you work in tight aisles. That’s page 4-4.

Source Validity: Why OEM Matters for a 2002 Manual

This is the original operator’s manual from Manitou, printed March 25, 2002. It cancels and replaces the previous reference 547041EN. Aftermarket manuals reprint the pictures but change the torque values – I’ve seen it. This file is a direct scan of the factory print. The identification plate data, load charts, and wiring notes are exact. If you’re restoring a buggy or need the specs for a rental fleet, this is the document. Check the related Manitou MSI Series Parts Catalog for part numbers, or step up to the Manitou MSI MH Series Repair Manual 2005 for deeper service procedures. For general transmission theory, Manual Transmission info is available, but this operator’s manual stays in the cab.

For a full overhaul, look at the Manitou MSI Series Repair Manual. That one covers disassembly. This operators manual is for daily use – pre-start checks, lubrication intervals, and load handling. The Manual Transmission section in other docs won’t help you here; this truck uses a hydrostatic drive. Stick with the factory book.

Does this manual cover the MSI 30 D BUGGIE?
Yes. The cover lists MSI 30 D BUGGIE, and the TOC includes dimensions and load chart for that variant. It’s included up to machine number 139125.
What about serial numbers after 139125?
Manitou issued this manual for machines up to that number. If your truck is later, you need the updated revision (reference 547827EN supersedes earlier versions). This manual is still useful for general operation and maintenance, but check the identification plate to confirm. I wouldn’t use it for a machine built after the cutoff – small changes in hydraulic routing can bite you.

You need this in the truck, not on your phone. Access the Factory Manual and print it. Stick it in a three-ring binder with the service records. That’s how you keep a Manitou running past ten thousand hours.
