Description
Lull 1044C-54 2014 Parts Catalog – The Only Parts Source You Should Trust
I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years, and I’ve seen more parts-counter disasters than I can count. A guy brings in a bearing pad for a Lull 1044C-54, says “it should fit,” and then the boom won’t extend. That’s what happens when you use aftermarket cross-references or a reprint that skipped pages. This 2014 Parts Catalog is the real factory document from JLG (an Oshkosh company). It’s 464 pages of OEM illustrations and part numbers, not some third-party compilation. If you’re maintaining a 1044C-54 Series II (S/N 0160009654 & After), this is the book you need on the bench.

464 Pages of Factory-Correct Part Numbers
Flip to page 5 and you’ll see the Table of Contents broken into eight sections. Frame, Boom, Attachments, Engine, Drive Train, Cab, Controls, Hydraulic Circuits. Each section has exploded-view figures with callouts. The Automotive Industry Overview might tell you about trends, but this manual tells you exactly which bolt goes where. Need the part number for the ZF transmission coupling group K2? That’s in Section 5, Figure 5-24. The manual lists every nut, seal, and bearing by OEM number. I’ve had to call JLG for a supersession before, but at least I knew the starting point was right.
Section 5 Drive Train: Axle and Transmission Breakdowns
This section is a beast. It covers the front and rear axles in detail – input, limited slip differential, M-Disc brake, joint housing, planetary drive. Then the ZF transmission: converter, gearbox housing, reversing gears, coupling groups K1 through K4, control unit, gearshift system, oil pump. If you’re rebuilding a planet carrier, you need the exact shim thickness. That’s on the figure notes. Don’t use a generic cross-reference – the factory spec is the only one that keeps the load from eating itself.
Section 4 Engine & Attaching Parts: Installation and Radiator
Engine installation, radiator assembly, air cleaner, exhaust – all in four figures. The effectivity page on page 2 shows the revision history from 2005 original issue through January 2014 revision J. That means this manual includes all updates for the 1044C-54 Series II. I’ve seen old manuals that skipped the radiator mount change in 2011. This one doesn’t. If you’re swapping a water pump, Figure 4-2 gives you the gasket PN and the bolt torque callout. Pay attention to the notes – they’re not filler.
Section 3 Attachments: Fork Carriages, Buckets, and Masts
Twenty-one figures cover everything from a standard carriage to a 50-inch side shift carriage, truss boom with winch, 8-foot vertical mast, grapple bucket, and sheet material handler. The [Lull 1044C-54 Series II Illustrated Parts Manual] is the companion to this catalog, but for ordering parts, you need the specific figure numbers. The part numbers for the fork pin lock (Figure 3-19) are listed with supersession notes. Don’t order a pin lock for a 1044C-54 without checking the revision – the 2014 manual includes the latest update.
What About Aftermarket Manuals?
I don’t trust them. Aftermarket manuals often reprint outdated figures, skip pages, or substitute generic part numbers that don’t match the factory stamp. This is an OEM document from JLG, printed in 2014, with 464 pages of verified data. The [Lull L-812 1983 Parts Catalog – OEM Factory Parts Breakdown] is a different beast, but for the 1044C-54, this is the one. And if you’re working on an older model, check the [Lull LD50, LL40 1985 Parts Catalog – OEM Factory Specs]. But for this 2014 machine, don’t settle for less.
FAQ
- Does this manual cover the ZF transmission?
- Yes, Section 5 covers it fully.
- What is the difference between this factory parts catalog and aftermarket versions?
- Aftermarket versions often omit revision history, use blurred illustrations, and list part numbers that have been superseded without notice. This OEM catalog includes the full effectivity page (page 2) showing every revision from A through J, and each figure matches the actual production build. I’ve seen aftermarket catalogs that list a different axle bearing for the 1044C-54 because they copied an earlier printing. That mistake costs $500 in labor to tear down a non-functional brake. The factory manual eliminates that risk.
Stop burning time on parts that don’t fit. Automotive Industry Overview is interesting, but the real work happens when you have the right part number in hand. Access the Factory Manual and keep it in your tool box. Your wallet will thank you.
