I’ve seen guys burn an hour tracking down why an E 20 won’t drive, only to find the travel switch U25 was out of its neutral window by 0.5 mm. You don’t find that spec in a generic repair pamphlet. You find it in the factory Linde E-Stapler E 20, E-Stapler E 25, E-Stapler E 30 Training Manual. This is the exact 62-page document Linde handed to its techs for the Type 325 series built from 5/81 through 1/86. It’s not a Chilton rewrite. It’s the original German training binder – wiring diagrams, adjustment procedures, maintenance schedules, all from the people who built the truck.

If you’re chasing electrical ghosts on an old E-Stapler, you need the circuit maps. Section 3.3.2 lays out the full Stromlaufplan (wiring diagram) – see page 2 for the main circuit, plus effect schematics for both standard and special builds. I’ve repaired two of these things without guessing because I had the factory pinouts for connectors L1 and L4 (section 3.3.3). You don’t probe blindly; you measure according to the book. The manual also gives you the exact dimensions and weights for the Type 325 battery (section 3.3.4) so you can spec a replacement without pulling the pack.

Drive Motors and Pump Motors – Factory Spec Table

An aftermarket manual will tell you “install similar motor.” This one gives you the hard numbers. Two DC series-wound motors with armature detection, Model GF 146 – 14/7.8. Voltage: 80 V across the board. Power ratings: 6.4 kW, 7.5 kW, or 11 kW depending on the variant. Current draw: 94 A, 113 A, 171 A. Torque: 38.5 Nm, 50 Nm, 86 Nm. Thermal switch opens at 160 °C ± 5%. Brush wear limit: 16 mm from new length of 40 mm. Those specs come straight out of section 3.3.1.1. If your lift motor is smoking, you can verify the armature resistance against the factory winding data – but that’s deeper into the binder.

Pump motors for working and steering hydraulics are covered in 3.3.1.2. The pump assembly for the work hydraulics and the steering pump motor are separated out with their own electrical requirements. You don’t mix them up. Wiring the steering motor with the wrong fuse size causes intermittent cut-out – I’ve seen it.

Electronic Adjustments – Setting the Controller Without Guesswork

Section 3.3.5 is the real money shot. If the forklift drifts when the pedal is released, you adjust the neutral position of the travel switch U25 (3.3.5.1). The manual tells you how to check it installed, how to test the graphite potentiometer plate both on and off the truck, and how to set the precision spindle trim potentiometer. That’s steps 3.3.5.2 through 3.3.5.5. Skip one step and you’ll be chasing a dead band all day.

Further into the section you get the adjustments on the control board U200 (3.3.5.6). You set drive current FS, handbrake current HBS, ramp-up time HZ, and brake current RS – all with specific pot positions and measurement points. Brake System and Steering Axle – Factory Maintenance

Section 3.3.6 covers braking – disc brake theory, hydraulic brake operation, mechanical parking brake, pad replacement, new combo calipers, master cylinder, and the foot/hand brake arrangement. The steering axle rebuild is in 3.3.6.8. Every torque spec is there – you don’t guess on brake caliper bolts. I’ve seen loose calipers ruin a rotor in 50 hours. The manual also includes the hydraulic schematic in 3.3.7, so you can trace a line leak without disassembling the whole chassis.

Who Needs This Manual?

Small warehouse owners who run a couple of old Linde E-Stapler E 25s – you can’t afford dealer labor rates every time the controller acts up. Independent forklift techs who service the late-70s through mid-80s Linde electrics will find this the only source for U200 adjustment values and brake pad wear limits. Even if you’re a DIY homeowner with a cheap E 30 from an auction, the electrical sections pay for themselves the first time you avoid a tow charge.

One thing: the manual is in German. The diagrams and numbers are universal, but the written procedures are technical German. If you can read a wiring schematic and follow a numbered step, you’ll manage. If you need the text translated, budget for a fluent friend or a translation tool – but don’t blame the manual for your language gap. It’s the real factory training document, not a reprint.

Does this manual cover the E 16 or E 35?
No. It’s limited to E 20, E 25, E 30 Type 325 built from May 1981 to January 1986.
Can I use this manual if I don’t read German?
It depends on your technical comfort level. The wiring diagrams, adjustment charts, and torque tables are language-agnostic – you can follow them by matching numbers and component locations. However, the textual descriptions of procedures (e.g., how to check the travel switch neutral in section 3.3.5.1) are in German. If you know basic electrical terms and can recognize parts from photos, you’ll get 80% of the information. For the remaining 20% – especially the troubleshooting logic in the control circuit sections – you’ll need a translation or a German-speaking colleague. I’ve used it on a job with only Google Translate open in another tab and it worked, but don’t expect perfectly translated syntax. The factory engineering drawings are worth the price even without fluency.
