Kubota LA514, LA724, LA854 Operators Manual

I’ve torqued enough head bolts to build a bridge. When a loader comes into my shop with a blown seal or a bent bucket, nine times out of ten the owner never read the factory manual. The Kubota LA514, LA724, LA854 Operators Manual is 39 pages of safety procedures and operating instructions that keep you from destroying a $3000 loader in the first hour. It’s not a repair manual. It’s the document that tells you what tire pressure to run, how to check the hydraulic fluid, and why you need rear ballast before you lift a load.

Safe Operation – The First Section You Must Read

Page 1 opens with SAFE OPERATION. That’s where Kubota tells you what happens if you ignore the warnings. Skip this and you risk a loader tipping forward because you didn’t ballast the rear. The manual also covers SERVICING OF LOADER on the same page – lifting points, lock pins, and the valve lock procedure on page 18. I’ve seen guys try to service a loader with the bucket still loaded. Don’t be that guy.

Specifications: Do You Have the Right Tractor?

Page 2 lists SUITABLE TRACTOR models for each loader. The LA514, LA724, and LA854 have different lift capacities and mounting kits. The manual gives you LOADER SPECIFICATIONS (page 2), BUCKET SPECIFICATIONS (page 3), DIMENSIONAL SPECIFICATIONS (page 4), and OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS (page 5). You’ll find bucket width, dump height, breakout force. Without these numbers, you can’t know if your tractor’s hydraulics can handle the load. Check page 2 first.

Check the Rear Ballast and Tire Inflation

This is the section most guys skip. Page 8 covers LUBRICATION, TRANSMISSION FLUID, TREAD. Then page 9 hits REAR BALLAST with liquid ballast in rear tires. Page 10 gives TIRE INFLATION pressures. I’ve had two callbacks because someone thought 20 psi was fine for both tires. The manual says exactly what pressure to run. Use it. Test Operation and Removing Air from the Hydraulic System

Page 10 walks you through TEST OPERATION – cycle the loader, check for leaks, listen for cavitation. Page 11 shows you how to remove air from the hydraulic system. This is critical after you connect new hoses or change fluid. The 4 Position bucket control valve type is explained on page 11 as well. Ignore this step and you’ll have a jerky bucket that can drop a load on your foot.

Operating the Loader: Fill, Lift, Carry, Dump, Backfill

Starting on page 13, this manual covers every move: FILLING THE BUCKET, LIFTING THE LOAD, CARRYING, DUMPING (page 15), LOWERING, FLOAT CONTROL (page 15), LOADING FROM A BANK (page 16), PEELING AND SCRAPING (page 16), LOADING TRUCKS (page 17), BACKFILLING (page 17), and HANDLING LARGE HEAVY OBJECTS (page 18). Each procedure has a required tool list – a bucket level indicator (page 19), front remote hydraulic control system if equipped (page 19). This is the difference between a pro and a hack.

The manual also includes the DUAL REMOTE HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEM (page 12) with control lever and hydraulic hose connections. If your loader has a remote valve lever, the diagram on page 12 shows which port is pressure and which is return. Get it wrong and you’ll blow a seal.

I trust OEM documentation because aftermarket manuals can’t get the specs right. This is a factory Kubota document – same one that comes with the loader. No third-party guesswork. Does this manual include repair instructions or just operation?

It is an operators manual, not a service manual. It covers safe operation, pre-op checks, hydraulic air bleed, and daily maintenance. It does NOT cover engine or transmission rebuilds.

What if my tractor is not listed in the suitable tractor table?

Then this loader is not approved for your tractor. Do not attempt to mount it. Loader specs on page 2 list lift capacity and frame dimensions – compare them to your tractor’s front axle and hydraulic flow. If it doesn’t match, find the correct loader. The manual won’t help you adapt it.

Do not skip the pre-operation check. Access the Factory Manual and put it in your toolbox. You’ll reference it every time you change to a different bucket or hook up a remote hydraulics line. That 39 pages will save you more than one ambulance ride.
