You need compression pressure specs, valve clearance numbers, and torque values that won’t leave a head gasket weeping. A generic repair manual from a third party will give you ballpark numbers that don’t match the factory tolerances. Lubricating oil capacity varies: D1503-M-E2B holds 7.0 L (1.85 U.S. gal), while V2003-M-E2B holds 9.5 L (2.51 U.S. gal). These specs are per model, not a one-size-fits-all guess.
TIGHTENING TORQUES – Getting It Right
Torque values for head bolts, main bearings, and connecting rods are often what separate a running engine from a parts-destroyer. The Tightening Torques section (second half of the manual) gives you the numbers in N·m, kgf·m, and lbf·ft. Because I know the drill: you torque a head bolt to 117.6 N·m (86.7 lbf·ft) on these engines. If you use an aftermarket spec that is 5% off, you risk pulling threads or losing clamp load. Page 2 shows the valve spring setting load – 117.6 N at 35.0 mm for intake springs, 100.0 N at 35.0 mm for exhaust. That is factory data, not a reprint from a third party.
Compression Pressure and Valve Clearance
Compression pressure for the D1703-M-E2B and D1803-M-E2B is the same range as the other models: 3.53–4.02 MPa at 290 rpm. Valve clearance when cold: intake 0.18–0.22 mm (0.0071–0.0087 in.), exhaust 0.55–0.70 mm (0.0217–0.0276 in.). If you are adjusting valves without these numbers, you are guessing. The manual also gives the flatness of the cylinder head surface – 0.05 mm over 500 mm (0.0020 in. over 19.69 in.). A warped head beyond that will leak. I have seen techs skip this check and then wonder why the head gasket fails.
Oil Pan Depth and Fluid Capacities
Engine oil capacity depends on the oil pan depth. The D1503-M-E2B uses a deep pan (124 mm), capacity 7.0 L. The V2003-M-T-E2B uses a shallow pan (90 mm), capacity 5.6 L (1.48 U.S. gal). If you fill a V2003-T with 7 L, you will overfill and risk aeration. Page 1 lists each model separately. This OEM document includes the exact valve timing diagram (page 3): intake opens 12° before TDC, exhaust closes 8° after TDC. That kind of timing data is critical when setting valve lash on a V2003-M-T-E2B with a turbo.
Beyond the engine body, the servicing specifications cover valve stem O.D., valve guide I.D., rocker arm shaft clearance, and tappet guide clearance. On page 2, the valve spring free length A is 41.2 mm (1.6220 in.), tilt limit is 1.0 mm. Those numbers matter if you are reusing old springs. One valve spring that’s 0.5 mm short will cause a miss.
