Need to know the oil pump regulator valve spring load? Page 11-017. That’s not an estimate – it’s a number from the engineer who designed the pump.
Several torque specs are scattered through the MAINTENANCE STANDARD section, but the critical ones – cylinder head bolts, main bearing caps, connecting rod nuts – are in the DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section with tightening sequences. You won’t find that in a Chilton manual.
11 Structure and Function: What the Manual Covers
Section 11 is where you live when the engine comes apart. It breaks down every subsystem: intake and exhaust (turbocharger included), engine body, lubrication system, fuel system, cooling system, electrical system, and the accessory drive for air compressor and exhaust brake. For each one there’s a chart showing oil flow, coolant path, or electrical connections. The FUEL SYSTEM CHART on page 11-025 traces the injection pump to nozzle line – no guesswork about which port feeds which cylinder.
If you’re rebuilding the valve system, the manual walks you through the rocker arm shaft, crosshead, and valve guide clearances. The VALVE AND VALVE GUIDE subsection in Maintenance Standard gives wear limits in millimeters and thousandths. Use a bore gauge, not a feeler gauge, for guide ID – the book tells you that.
Does This Manual Include Fuel System Calibration?
It does. TESTING AND ADJUSTING (section 12) has a dedicated subsection for CHECKING AND ADJUSTING FUEL INJECTION TIMING and the FUEL INJECTION PUMP CALIBRATION DATA tables. Valve Clearance: Why Specs Matter

It also tells you the order to set each cylinder – firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4, same as the engine’s rotation. If your aftermarket manual says ‘intake and exhaust both 0.35 mm’, it’s wrong. The factory calls for different values depending on the valve. Page 12-001.
One thing I appreciate: the manual includes a step to rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees after the first set and then check the other valves. Most quick-print guides skip that. They also give the torque for the rocker arm bracket bolts – 69 N·m – which is right in the sweet spot for 10mm studs.
Troubleshooting the 6D125: From S-1 to S-16
The troubleshooting section is a decision tree, not a list of vague symptoms. S-1 through S-16 cover starting problems, black smoke, oil consumption, overheating, vibration – the whole range. Each one breaks into sub-causes with numbered steps. For example, S-2 (engine does not start) splits into three branches: engine doesn’t turn, engine turns but no exhaust gas (fuel not injected), exhaust gas comes out but engine doesn’t start (fuel injected). For the second branch, the manual tells you to check the fuel cut solenoid first – page 12-020 – then the injection pump rack. That’s the sequence the factory techs use.
If you’re chasing an intermittent stall, look at S-4. It points you to the MAGNETIC SWITCH (FUEL CUT SOLENOID) test in the Structure and Function section. I’ve seen two shops replace an injection pump because they didn’t have this manual and the solenoid was sticking.
Why OEM Documentation Beats Aftermarket Copies
Aftermarket manuals for the 6D125 often list generic torque values that match no engine. I’ve tested it. The OEM book gives you the exact bolt grade, tightening angle, and sequence for the cylinder head. It also includes the LIST OF REVISED PAGES at the front – that’s important because Komatsu issued updates for specific pages between 2011 and later production years. If you have a 2012 engine, some specs changed. The manual’s revision list tells you which pages to swap. No third-party reprint includes that.
Another giveaway: the weight table in section 01 gives the dry weight of the 6D125 at 1050 kg (2315 lb). That’s not in any aftermarket book. You need that for hoisting and transport. Safety matters.
