Kenworth T800, W900S, W900B 2006 Technical Manual

2006 Kenworth T800 Technical Manual cover showing truck dimensions layout

I’m Mike Callahan. I have seen body shops waste a day because they used a third-party dimension sheet that was off by half an inch. That half-inch costs you a frame reinforcement that doesn’t fit. This OEM Kenworth T800, W900S, W900B 2006 Technical Manual gives you the factory measurements you need to design a body that actually mounts correctly. 21 pages of dimension drawings for the T800, W900S, and W900B, including split fender, short hood, wide hood variants. Published 2006, still current for these chassis generations. You don’t guess with frame rail heights — you use the data Kenworth printed.

Dimensions Section: The Only Numbers You Should Trust

Open to Section 3 and you’ll find overall dimension drawings for every variant. Page 3-4 shows the standard T800: 82.8 inches front overhang, 122.6 frame section length, wheelbase variable. Page 3-8 covers the T800 Wide Hood with the 1780 square inch radiator — note the 83.3 front section. All dimensions are in inches, measured from the bottom of the frame rail. The manual also includes a note about .dxf files and frame layouts available from your salesman four weeks before build. That’s not fluff — that’s real-world planning data.

Does This Manual Cover the Powertrain?

No. This is a body builder manual, not a service manual. You will not find engine torque specs, transmission overhaul procedures, or wiring diagrams for the cab. It’s strictly about chassis dimensions for mounting bodies, fifth wheels, and auxiliary equipment. If you need powertrain or electrical documentation, check the Kenworth T470 Body Builder Manual”> or the Kenworth T170,T270,T370 2011 Installation Manual – OEM Specs”> for newer medium-duty trucks. For electrical troubleshooting, the Kenworth P94 Electrical Schematic – OEM Factory Diff Lock Wiring | AutoRepairMan”> covers diff lock circuits. For details on the transmission itself, see the Wikipedia article on Manual Transmission.

3 Model Variants with Hood Options

The T800 comes in standard, split fender, short hood, short hood with FEPTO (Front Engine Power Take Off), and wide hood configurations. Each has its own drawing. The W900S and W900B are also covered. The FEPTO variant extends the frame rails and raises the cab — critical when you’re building a body that clears the power take-off. The wide hood accommodates the larger radiator, changing front dimensions. You must know which variant you have before ordering a body; the manual makes that distinction clear.

Get the Frame Rail Height Right

Heights are given from the bottom of the frame rail. To determine overall height, locate Table 3-3 on page 3-13 and add that value. Miss that step and your body sits too high or too low. I’ve seen a dump body wedge against the cab because someone used a generic height. Safety warning: incorrect body mounting can cause frame fatigue or load shift.

T800 with Split Fenders: Optional Hood Configuration

The split fender option changes the front width and fender clearance. Page 3-5 shows the standard T800 with split fenders: note the 48.5 inch front section and 34.0 inch rear section. If you are mounting a body that requires clearance for a Manual Transmission, cross-check the transmission housing projection against these dimensions. The manual gives you the exact numbers, not approximations from a parts catalog.

Q: Is this manual useful for engine specifications?
No, it focuses on vehicle dimensions for body mounting.
Q: What dimensions are included in this manual?
Overall length, wheelbase, cab-to-axle (CA), frame section length, front overhang (FS), rear overhang, and height reference tables. Each variant (T800, T800 Short Hood, T800 Wide Hood, T800 with Split Fenders, T800 Short Hood with FEPTO, W900S, W900B) has its own drawing. The measurements are given in inches and are critical for designing dump bodies, flatbeds, wreckers, and other vocational bodies. The manual also notes that .dxf files and frame layouts can be requested from the salesman four weeks prior to build, which is a bonus for shop floor planning.

If you are building a body for a T800, W900S, or W900B, you need these numbers from the source. Access the Factory Manual and get the OEM dimensions that keep your build safe and compliant.
