Safety Procedures: More Than a Warning Label

Section 01 Group 001 walks you through Engine Model Designation, Serial Number Plate Information, and the OEM Engine Option Code Label. If you are swapping an engine into a combine or a generator set, you need those numbers. Then the Fuels section goes into diesel fuel, biodiesel fuel, testing diesel fuel, and lubricity. Genuine factory specs for cetane, sulfur content, and water separation. Use anything else at your own risk.

Injection Pump Static Timing (Page 2)

Right in the Repair and Adjustments section, the manual gives you the procedure for Injection Pump Static Timing. On page 2 of the manual (the Foreword), it says this is one of five volumes—the base engine manual is CTM104, alternators are CTM77, OEM accessories are CTM67. So if you are rebuilding the injection pump, you need this exact volume for the DE10 pump. The static timing procedure includes inspecting the drive gear ID and shaft OD, installing the pump, and bleeding the system. You will not find that in a generic service manual.

Electronic Control System Diagnostics

The Diagnostics section starts with Observable Diagnostics and Tests. Two big ones: E1 – Engine Cranks/Won’t Start and E2 – Engine Misfires/Runs Irregularly. Each diagnostic procedure comes with step-by-step troubleshooting, component tests, and voltage checks. No guesswork. For example, the ECU self-diagnosis procedure walks you through reading fault codes, checking the Controller Area Network (CAN), and verifying sensor inputs like coolant temperature, oil pressure, and manifold air temperature. If you are chasing an intermittent misfire, this is your map.

Audience Fit: Who Needs This Manual

You could be a farmer with a combine that has a 6.8L engine, or a marine mechanic working on a generator set, or a shop owner managing a fleet of irrigation pumps. If you touch these engines, you need this. The manual assumes you are an experienced technician—it lists required tools, WEATHERPACK and DEUTSCH connector repair procedures, and torque values for every fastener. It does not hold your hand. But if you follow it, you will not have to redo a job because of wrong specs.

No. This is one of five volumes and covers only the Level 12 electronic fuel system with DE10 pump. The base engine manual is CTM104.
What torque values are listed in the manual?
Torque specs are in Section 06 for every fastener on the fuel system: injection pump mounting bolts, nozzle holder nuts, fuel filter housing, and sensor threads. All values are in Nm and lb-ft. Do not rely on a generic chart—use these.
