Description

Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee 1994 Parts Catalog

You have a Wrangler, a Cherokee, or a Grand Cherokee on the lift, and you are hunting for a part number that the aftermarket catalog got wrong again. I have been there more times than I care to count. That is why I keep a copy of this 1994 factory parts catalog within arm’s reach. It is not a reprint or a scanned third-party mess. This is the actual OEM document Jeep issued for the 1994-1996 model years, and it covers the Wrangler (YJ), Cherokee (XJ), and Grand Cherokee (ZJ). 1046 pages of factory-sourced part numbers, exploded views, and identification details that save you from ordering the wrong axle shaft or brake cable. Let me show you what is inside and why you need it on your bench.

1994 Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee OEM Parts Catalog cover

Transmission Identification: Manual & Automatic

Figure out which transmission you are dealing with before you order seals or a rebuild kit. The General Information section includes “Automatic Transmission Identification” and “Manual & Automatic Transmissions” chapters. You get the model and serial number locations, plus the sales codes that tell you exactly which unit came from the factory. No guessing based on the pan shape — that gets you into trouble on a Grand Cherokee with a 42RE versus a 46RE. The catalog breaks it down by year and engine combo.

Front Suspension & Drive: 22 Figure Groups

Group 2 is the front suspension and drive section. It separates Wrangler, Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee components. Need a front stabilizer bar for a Wrangler YJ? Figure 2-110. Looking for the front springs and shocks on a Grand Cherokee? Figure 2-160 has the control arms, track bar, and spring part numbers. The catalog even distinguishes between axles with and without the disconnect system (Figures 2-210 and 2-220). If you are swapping a Dana 30 into a Cherokee, you will find the axle housing, shafts, and differential parts listed separately for 2WD and 4WD versions.

Rear Axle Identification: Dana vs Chrysler

Group 3 covers rear axles. Dana 35, Dana 44, and Chrysler 8.25 inch. Each one has its own figure group for assembly, housing, differential (locking and non-locking), and shafts. The manual tells you how to identify your axle by the cover shape and ring gear size — look in the “Rear Axle Identification” section on the General Information pages. For a Grand Cherokee with a Dana 44, Figure 3-255 gives you the housing part number; Figure 3-275 lists the locking differential components. This level of detail keeps you from ordering a drum brake backing plate that does not fit.

Brakes, Parking: Lever Assembly and Cables

Parking brake cables that are too long or too short? That happens when you grab a generic cable. Group 4 shows the lever assembly and cable routing for Wrangler and Cherokee. Figure 4-110 covers the Wrangler YJ, Figure 4-120 covers the Cherokee, and there is a separate figure for floor-mount levers. The parts catalog includes the correct cable length by VIN range and body style. You get the part number once, and it fits the first time.

3 Ways to Locate Any Part

The “How To Use This Catalog” section (page INF-2) gives you three methods to find parts. Option 1: Use the Group Contents to find the right part group and then the Illustration Index. Option 2: Use the Alphabetical Index — if you know the noun name, like “ALTERNATOR, 3.3L Engine”, the index points you to the figure and item number. Option 3: Use the Numerical Index if you already have a part number and want to verify it or find supersessions. The catalog also includes a “Newpart Index” for parts updated during the model run.

What is the difference between this catalog and a service manual?
This is a parts catalog, not a repair manual. It gives you factory part numbers, exploded diagrams, and identification data. It does not contain step-by-step removal procedures or torque specs for assembly. If you need repair procedures, get the factory service manual instead. Jeep Wrangler 2004 Service Manual – Section: Foreword/Group Tabs
Does this catalog cover the 1995 and 1996 models?
Yes. The title says 1994-1996.
Can I use this to rebuild a transmission or transfer case?
It lists the internal parts — gaskets, seals, clutches, and bands — but you will need the service manual for assembly clearances and end-play specs. The catalog does include a “Transfer Case Identification” section to help you order the correct chain or shift fork. 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK WH Factory Service Manual
Why should I trust this catalog over a parts website?
Parts websites often list supersessions incorrectly or omit revisions. This is the original factory document that Jeep dealerships used. Every part number was verified by the manufacturer. The catalog includes a “Parts Catalog Revision Service” section that explains how to interpret engineering changes. 1994-1996 Jeep Parts Catalog

Aftermarket catalogs cut corners. They leave out the small brackets, the oddball nut, or the right-length brake hose. When you are working on a 1994 Wrangler or a Grand Cherokee that has had three owners, you need the original part numbers. This catalog gives them to you, organized by group and illustration, with an alphabetical index that even lists “Oil Pump Reservoir Door.” Do not waste time cross-referencing generic databases. Access the Factory Manual and keep it on your tablet or print the pages you need. Your parts counter will thank you.
