Isuzu TF Workshop Manual

Isuzu TF Workshop Manual 320 pages transmission JR405E repair manual cover

I’ve torn down more JR405E transmissions than I care to count, and the first thing I tell any junior tech who walks into my San Antonio shop is this: trash the aftermarket manuals. You want a real shot at getting a valve body back together without a comeback? You need an Isuzu TF Workshop Manual – the factory book, not some reprint that guesses at line pressures. This one covers the TF series with the JR405E automatic, and at 320 pages it’s got the guts you need: torque converter lock-up data, oil pump clearances, and every DTC from P0722 to P0602. No filler. Factory spec only.

Factory Documentation – Not a Third-Party Compromise

Every aftermarket manual I’ve seen skips the details that matter. The Isuzu original prints the transmission control unit (TCM) peripheral circuit diagram, the exact inhibit switch logic, and the fail-safe valve failure codes. Look at page 7A1-8 and you get the torque converter lock-up function explained with the hydraulic circuit, not a generic paragraph. That’s the difference between a transmission that shifts right and one that burns clutches in 500 miles. If you’re serious about rebuilding or diagnosing, you start here. Manual Transmission basics help, but this book is the Isuzu-specific bible.

Section 7A1: Construction, Function & Control Mechanism

Section 7A1 opens with the construction – main data and specification, number plate location, electronic control components location, and the TCM peripheral circuit. From there it jumps into component function: torque converter with lock-up, oil pump, input/output shafts, gear shifting mechanism, and the control valve body. The oil passage diagrams on page 7A1-19 are worth the price alone – they show exactly which passage feeds the 2-4 brake circuit. You also get the learning control logic and Direct Electric Shift Control (DESC) block diagram. This is the chapter you study before you pull the pan.

Section 7A2: DTC Diagnosis, Tech 2 & Wiring

Section 7A2 is where the pain stops. Basic trouble shooting, self-diagnosis using the trans indicator, and full Tech 2 connection procedures. The manual includes the Tech 2 operating flow chart, typical scan data, and snapshot display with TIS2000. For electrical diagnostics, there are five parts location diagrams (RHD, LHD, 4JH1-TC, and two more) plus a connector list and a complete diagnosis trouble code table. Every DTC from P0722 (vehicle speed sensor) to P1755 (2-4 brake fail-safe valve) has its own troubleshooting procedure, including component test and circuit checks. You want to fix an intermittent “No. B2: Poor Acceleration at Starting”? The symptom diagnosis table walks you through it in order.

Who Actually Needs This Manual?

If you’re a home garage mechanic or a weekend DIYer pulling a transmission out of a donated Isuzu TF, this manual gives you the confidence that the torque converter bolts are torqued to factory spec – not to the “tight enough” standard. Beginners get the component name-and-function tables; experienced guys get the control circuit block diagram and the service programming system (SPS) steps. Even shop owners like me use it to verify torque values before hand-tightening a valve body. Don’t trust your memory, trust the book. Related manuals you might need: Isuzu TF Service Manual for engine work, Isuzu TF 2007 Workshop Manual for later model updates, and Isuzu TF Gasoline Engine Workshop Manual if you are swapping a gas motor.

Torque Specs, Fluid Capacities & Lock-Up Control

Line pressure control, lock-up control, and gear ratio error codes – all backed by factory numbers. The torque converter lock-up solenoid duty cycle specs are right there in the control mechanism tables. Need the charge pressure for the 2-4 brake? Check the main data and specification page. I’ve seen too many DIYers strip valve body bolts by guessing at torque. This manual gives you the exact lb-ft for every fastener in the transmission. Don’t skip it. FAQ – Two Questions Most Techs Ask

Does this manual cover the TF diesel engines?
It covers the transmission, not the engine. For the 4JH1-TC diesel you get parts location diagrams and the TDC sensor wiring, but engine overhaul is not in this book.
Can I use this manual with a generic OBD2 scanner?
You can read codes, but the diagnostics are written for the Tech 2 scan tool. The manual includes Tech 2 connection steps, operating flow chart, and typical scan data. A generic scanner will give you the DTC number; this book tells you which wire to measure and at what voltage. Without the Tech 2, you’ll lose some bidirectional control and the snapshot analysis via TIS2000. If you’re doing serious work, buy or borrow the Tech 2. The manual shows you exactly how to use it.

You’ve read the specs, you’ve seen the TOC. This is the same factory manual that Isuzu dealers used when these trucks were new. No reprint, no generic copy, no missing pages. Access the Factory Manual now and get the transmission back on the road with real torque data and real DTC procedures.
