Description

Gmdat LGH, LML 2010 Training Manual

If you’ve ever wasted an afternoon chasing a DEF system fault on an LML because some aftermarket guide told you the wrong pressure spec, you know the pain. This Gmdat LGH, LML 2010 Training Manual is the factory document that GM trainers used to teach technicians how these engines work. It’s 146 pages of direct-from-GM content, not a third-party rehash. Missing torque values or incorrect wiring diagrams cost time and parts. This manual gives you the actual data – no guesswork.

RPO Platforms and Engine Variations

The manual starts with the RPO breakdown. LGH (VIN L) goes into 2011 Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana, and cab-chassis Silverado/Sierra – 250 hp to 330 hp with torque from 460 to 660 lb-ft. LML (VIN 8) is the pickup-only engine, pushing 397 hp and 765 lb-ft. Both are B20 compliant. Page 2 spells out exactly which vehicles get which engine. If you’re swapping a Duramax or diagnosing a mismatch, this saves you from ordering the wrong parts.

DEF System Operation and Warnings

Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is covered in serious depth. The manual walks through the entire SCR/DEF system, from tank unit construction to DIC warning messaging. Page 26 details the urea level/temperature sensor and DEF tank unit replacement procedure. You get the factory flow chart for low fluid messaging – the five-step warnings that escalate from “refill soon” to speed-limited operation. Missing that sequence can leave you with a customer stranded due to an improperly reset system. The manual also lists DEF storage specs: below 68°F, no direct sunlight, container tightly closed. Follow those or you’ll get crystallized fluid and plugged injectors.

NOx Aftertreatment System: Factory Diagnostics

NOx sensors, DPF regeneration, downstream hydrocarbon injection – this section (slide numbers 49–60) covers maximum soot mass values and calculated soot levels since last regeneration. The manual explains how the ECM decides when to trigger a regen and what to check when it won’t happen. It also covers the exhaust brake messaging and the high-voltage system warning. If you’re dealing with a DPF that won’t clear or a NOx sensor reading out of range, the diagnostic flow here is the same one GM dealers use.

Fuel Pressure Regulator Diagnosis and High-Voltage Injectors

Fuel system faults are common on these engines. Page 96 walks through fuel pressure regulator diagnosis using the Tech2 – the balance test procedure for high-voltage injectors is on slide 109. The manual explicitly states: “Follow service information” for injector removal. It also covers injector pairings and the electrical side of the high-voltage system. If you skip the pairing step, you’ll get misfires and a comeback. This is the kind of detail aftermarket manuals leave out.

Torque Specs and Fluid Capacities – Don’t Guess

Every fastener on these engines has a specific torque value that matters. The manual doesn’t print a generic table – torque specs are embedded in the procedures. For example, the DEF tank mounting bolts, the fuel pressure line fittings, and the high-pressure injector hold-downs. The manual also details the new oil spec (GF-4 to GF-5 comparison shown in the bookmarks). No aftermarket book gives you the exact lb-ft for the EGR valve bolts on an LML. This one does.

Who Needs This Manual

Home garage guys who are swapping a Duramax into an older chassis need the wiring and CAN network details. Shop owners who have a tech stuck on a DPF regen issue need the calculated soot mass values. Beginners should not start here – this is a training manual, not a step-by-step repair guide for novices. It assumes you know how to use a multimeter and a scan tool. But if you have some experience and want to understand the emissions system at a deeper level before touching it, this is the right resource.

Source Authenticity: OEM vs Aftermarket

I’ve seen enough aftermarket manuals that tell you to “remove the bolt and replace the sensor” without telling you the sensor is a high-voltage part that can kill you. This Gmdat manual has safety warnings like “CAUTION: May cause skin and eye irritation” for DEF fluid – see slide 5. Aftermarket reprints often skip those warnings. This is the original factory training material from 2010. No reprint, no generic data. The PDF is 146 pages of slide-by-slide training content, exactly as GM delivered it.

Does this manual cover the LGH engine?
Yes. The LGH and LML are both covered, with separate torque and spec data for each RPO.
How many pages is it?
146 pages.
What is the publication year?
2010. It’s the factory training material for the 2011 model year engines.
Is this an OEM manual or aftermarket?
This is a factory Gmdat training manual, not aftermarket. It covers the 2010 LGH and LML Duramax engines with full emissions system data – DEF operation, DPF regeneration, fuel pressure regulator diagnosis, high-voltage injectors, and electrical diagrams. The manual is 146 pages of direct-from-GM training content. Aftermarket manuals often skip the safety warnings or use generic torque values. This one has the actual OEM specifications and the same flow charts GM techs use in the field. If you’re working on these engines, you want the source that doesn’t leave out the critical steps.
