Description
GEHL 652 Operators Manual – Factory Documentation for the 652 Wheeled Excavator

Twenty-eight years in the shop, and I still get calls from guys who bought a aftermarket “manual” that skips half the steps. They end up with a cylinder that won’t retract or a swing bearing that’s torqued wrong. That’s why I push factory documentation. The GEHL 652 Operators Manual is one of those. Sixty pages, printed by Gehl, covering the 652 wheeled excavator – none of that reprint nonsense.
This manual starts with the warranty and then dives into the INTERNATIONAL SYMBOLS chapter (inside front cover). If you’ve ever stared at a hydraulic symbol and guessed what it meant, that section alone is worth the price. Then you get GENERAL INFORMATION – machine identification, specifications for the engine, hydraulic system, undercarriage, slewing system, dozer blade, standard bucket, and noise level. Page 1-3 has the numbers you need for fluid capacities and pressures. Need the charge pressure for the hydraulic system? It’s right there in the specs.
Specifications: Engine, Hydraulic System, and Undercarriage Data
The table on page 1-3 lists engine specs, hydraulic system pressure and flow, undercarriage dimensions, slewing torque, blade size, and bucket capacity. All in imperial units – pounds, inches, gallons. No metric conversions to mess up your afternoon. For example, the hydraulic system relief pressure is listed. That’s critical if you’re swapping a pump or adjusting the swing brake.
Safety Warnings and Decal Locations
Every operator manual should tell you where the damn safety decals go. This one does. It shows the machine layout and points out warning labels for rotating parts, high-pressure fluid injection, and overhead loads. If you’re teaching a new hand how to run a 652, you read that section out loud before they touch the joysticks.
Warranty and Maintenance Schedule
The warranty section (page 2) spells out what Gehl covers and what they don’t. Transportation to the dealer? Not included. Normal maintenance items? Not included. But it tells you the intervals for oil changes, filter replacements, and hydraulic fluid checks. Follow those and the machine will outlast your patience.

3 Reasons to Choose OEM Documentation
- Factory-approved torque values – not guessed from a generic table. Every bolt on the 652 has a spec written by Gehl engineers.
- Accurate wiring diagrams – not redrawn by a guy in his basement. The symbols match the machine’s actual harness.
- Safety instructions that hold up in court – liability matters when a part fails and someone gets hurt.
- Does this manual cover the GEHL 652 only, or other models too?
- It covers only the 652 wheeled excavator.
- Are torque specs given in imperial units?
- Yes. All specs are in foot-pounds, inches, and gallons. No metric conversion needed.
- What about the hydraulic system pressures – are they listed?
- Page 1-3 includes hydraulic pressure specs for the pump, swing motor, and auxiliary circuits. You’ll find relief valve settings and recommended oil viscosity by ambient temperature. If you’re rebuilding a cylinder or adjusting the pilot pressure, that page is your starting point. Don’t guess – use the factory number.
- Can I print this PDF or is it locked?
- It’s a standard PDF – you can print it, keep it on your tablet, or save it to your shop computer. No DRM.
You’ve spent good money on that 652. Now spend a few dollars to get the factory documentation that tells you exactly how to run it, maintain it, and keep it safe. Access the Factory Manual and stop relying on secondhand advice.
