Engine Control System JL4G18-D – What the Manual Tells You

Section 2.2 covers the JL4G18-D control system. You get fastener tightening specifications, temperature sensor resistance vs. temperature correlation, altitude vs. atmospheric pressure correlation, and intake air pressure sensor voltage vs. pressure diagram. That is not stuff you find in a generic Chilton. When a customer brings in an EC718 with a drivability complaint, I go straight to the system working principle chapter. The fuel injection quantity adjustment procedure is laid out step by step. No aftermarket interpretation.

Is This Book for the Home Garage Mechanic?

If you own an EC715RV and you do your own oil changes, brakes, and belt replacements, yes. The regular service instructions and the normal driving condition service schedule (section 1.4.2.2) give you the interval for every fluid and filter. The tire rotation description (1.4.2.5) tells you the pattern. The manual also includes instructions for lifting and jacking the vehicle – critical if you plan to crawl under it. Get the Fuel System Specs Right

The manual lists inspection items before each time filling fuel (1.2.1.2). That includes checking the fuel cap, looking for leaks, verifying the fuel grade. The fuel injection quantity adjustment table is in the engine control system chapter. Do not assume the values. Use the factory specs. One wrong number and you are chasing a misfire for hours.

Can I use this manual for a 2010 Geely EC7?

No. This manual is specifically for model year 2009. Geely states that specifications and repair procedures may change without notice. Using it for a later model year risks using wrong torque values or diagnostic procedures. You need the 2010 manual for the correct data. That said, some components like the JL4G18-D engine carried over, but the wiring and calibration numbers changed. Do not risk it. Get the right year.

Are torque specs given in foot-pounds or Newton-meters?
